"Increased Battery Discharge"

"Increased Battery Discharge" message pops up, usually after the 2nd and all subsequent start-ups throughout the day.

Anyone?

This is annoying. If you run the battery down past a certain threshold you get this message. It is intended to let you know that something is draining your battery while you are away from the car.

Even though I don't do short trips, I will sometimes see this message. When I get it I have to charge the battery manually overnight and then there's no problem. I usually have to deal with it when I had to valet park and they forget to press the "start" button twice to shut things down.

The dealer can read the key and see if you are running enough engine time to charge the battery. It seems like it's impossible to ever catch up.

How old is your battery?
I had the same issue since I dont use the car more than 20 miles per day at most, so they recoded the car with a fast charge cycle instead of the regular cycle and problem solved, maybe you can ask your dealer to recode your car and check if it helps
Good luck!

Thanks for the responses.

The battery is just over 3 years old.

I did have an aftermarket mono amp installed by a BMW mechanic and he assured me that this isn't the problem because he ran the remote turn-on wire properly. Maybe I do need a new battery but I can't believe that at 3 years...

In my 2012 X6M (build date 4/2011), I got the same message last year and this year, both when the weather turned colder. It was generally coupled with the comfort access not working to open the doors. Last year, the dealer charged the battery and it seemed to work. This year, the dealer replaced the battery and battery cable entirely, blaming the problem on the battery cable. I mentioned the slow/fast charging scheme to the dealer, who said their tech had never heard of it. I've certainly seen the scheme mentioned enough times on this forum to know that it exists! Good luck.
