iPhone 7 connectivity (via USB Y cable)?

Hi everyone,

Proud new owner of a 2011 X5. Car came with a y cable for the iPhone (older gen). Went and bought the 30 pin to lightning adapter and the car reads my music perfectly.

However, no sound! Assuming because the cable with the car has a headphone jack as well. If this were a iPhone 6 or prior I assume I'd plug that in as well and have no issues.

Does anyone know the work around or whether another adapter is available to make this work?

Thanks

Did you try your regular lightning to USB cable?

Standard USB connection gives me this message. Y-Cable works great (in terms of reading music on phone), just no sound (I assume sound is pushed via headphone jack of Y-cable).

CDNBimmer,

Possible issues:
1. What is the part number of your y-cable? Is it the older 61120440645 (which has "0440 645" imprinted on the y-cable)? That does not work properly with newer iPhones/iPods.
2. Did you buy Apple's 30-pin to 8-pin adapter? Pretty sure that all other brands do not support audio. I did see one on Amazon that has a separate audio cable.
3. Do you have the right y-cable for your car option? Do you have option 6NH or 6FL?

I have just tested my iPhone 7 Plus with y-cable (61220440796) with Apple 30-pin adapter with BMW option 6FL. It works perfectly for both charging and for sound.

Use the Bluetooth adapter for E series.

Bovee WMA3000B on amazon.

Works great with my iPhone 7 in both my E90 and my E70

Tested a different y-cable and it worked!

Thanks for everyone's feedback

I have something very similar to the Bovee but I find i get a slight whistling sound which is very faint but super annoying.

I have a y cable too but cant seem to get it to work...
