Just Installed BMW Winter Wheels Package

I have just installed the winter wheels package on my X6:

Installed 19" Style 232 Start Spoke Alloys
Bridgestone Blizzak LM-25 255/50/R19

My 20" Tyres are now being stored in my Garage.

The winter tyres are 255/50 R19

My previous set up was

Front 275/40 R20 Bridgestone Dueller
Rear 315/35 R20 Bridgestone Dueller

I have only had the tyres on for just over a day and Wow what a differance in the ride. Far smoother (less bumpy) that the 20s.
Think I prefer the winter tyre ride to the 20s although the 20s do look a bit better.

Road noise is very good (hardly noticable from the 20s OEM setup)
The 232 Alloys look pretty good on the vehicle as well.
So far I am very impressed!

Snow has melted away here in Scotland for the time being I am sure it will be back soon though.

Does anybody have any first hand experiences of these winter tyres in deep / fresh snow ice/ slush and other winter conditions ?

same setup

I have the same exact setup on my X6 5.0, and I'm on my second winter here in Michigan.

Overall they are a great tire. Very quiet, good handling, traction, & smooth ride.

I agree with you, the ride comfort is really nice compared to the factory 20's (summer staggered setp) with run flats.

On snow they are great but be aware they are decent, not great on ice.

Just watch stopping distance when you encounter ice as with ABS you will get "chatter" and not so much braking.

Most likely, no performance snow tire will be in this category vs a dedicated (non handling) snow tire.

Straight line traction is awesome. It's fun to drive this "panzer" in the snow.

I tried Pirelli Scorpion Ice & Snows' and the Blizzak LM-25 is a much much better ride, the Pirelli's were harder and noisier with less winter traction (not bad in snow but not as grabby as the LM-25's).

Enjoy your setup, you mad a great choice, and you won't be disappointed

correction

Dunzzy,

My bad. I have Blizzak LM-60's not the LM-25's.

Similar tires, but the LM-60 is a more aggressive snow tread thatn the LM-25.

Very similar though.

what has your experience been with the stock 20s RFT in cold weather and some snow? Is this something I definitely have to change?

hi,

I found that the 20s were OK on ice and hard packed snow and ok on well used snow routes however they are no good when trail blazing through fresh snow (6 inches deep). The winter tyres are in a different league.
