What is a reasonable price for Y-spoke wheels+tires?

Hello,

My fiance and I are in our researching stage for a new car. Currently we both drive sedans and we need a little bit more room and safety (esp when it snows here - Eastern PA). We really like the X5 but most likely will be waiting for the newer redesign to come out before actually buying.

With that said, i'm assuming the wheels will be staying about the same between the two generations (correct me if i'm wrong - they are different generation right?) Nevertheless we like the 35i (base model) but we want the staggered wheels and flares of the sport activity model. So my question is what is a reasonable price for a dealer to charge you for those seperate options. Would it be better just to spend the extra 10K and have those wheels / flares included and get whatever extra?

Thank you in advance.

You can buy Y spoke style 214 in 20" with tires for a very reasonable price on these forums or around. They run between $2500-$4000 for a used or new set. The arc extenders, there was somebody selling them for $250 used. I figure $500 for a new. I bought my second Y spoke 214 set new from a member for $3500 with tires and TPMS.

Thanks NRG. That is much better than the 10K difference between the two variants!

You do get a lot more features standard in that 10k difference though:

sport seats, leather, heated seats, lumbar support, rear parking sensors, privacy glass, power folding mirrors, power adjustable steering wheel, power tailgate, panoramic sunroof and you have more options to customize.

Just something to think about, it's not like you're only getting bigger wheels.

Thanks for the information!

@ND40oz - The reason we don't want to go for the Sport Activity version is because we do not want leather. We both live a lifestyle where we don't think that animals should be killed so that we can sit on dead skin in our cars...But that is a different topic and I don't want to get into that "PETA vs. Meateaters" debate here

You might see if your BMW dealer can try doing an individual order without leather for you, it can be done in other countries, just depends if they can get the order accepted.

I was not aware that this was even a possibility. Do they only do it for special extreme circumstances I.E. you're a celebrity or a big whig? Do I lose all negotiating powers if I chose to order a car with 'non-normal' options? (I would think its less interest that the dealership is paying for a car to sit on thier lot when its already been "sold" before it even arrives and thus they give a better deal?)

Well, for a vegan (?) hippie (??) they won't do much...

j/k

In reality it really depends if your dealer is willing to go through the troubles and risks of such order, which probably depends on your relationships with him. They bear a risk that you refuse the delivery for whatever reason and they end up with an 'oddball', so proving your intentions by a big deposit may help. A friend of mine ordered a stripped-down Audi A6 - and I mean truly stripped, like cloth seats, stick-shift, etc. - few years ago, so it is possible
Not sure re price negotiations, probably will cost you a slightly higher number (=their profit) over invoice.

You may have to find a dealer that's familiar with the individual program if your current one isn't. On the X5, people have had success ordering the individual sound which is step above the premium sound. I tried to order Pearl Silver Metallic but my dealer said they couldn't do it. Usually individual orders are for special leather and trim or a different exterior color, but one of the options in the catalog is Anthracite Twill Cloth. They should also be able to do the standard leatherette. I've seen alcantara seats as well, but I believe the sides and head rests are leather, so they wouldn't work for you.
