Rear fog light mod

Hi everyone!

I've been searching forums and found that e9x owners in US do very simple mod to their light swithes to enable rear fog lights. From what I have seen it should be similar with X6 switch.
My only question is how to get the switch out of the dashboard. Do anyone know?
It would be good to have rear fogs enabled, specialy when you drive US car in Europe, where rear fogs are obligatory.

Euro spec cars do have rear fogs, but US dont. I have US spec car in Europe and it would be nice to have rear fog lights. Euro switch costs around 150$ which os not that much, but I am in to DIY projects and this one seems to be easy one. It could be easy and inexpensive mod for US x6s.

I believe the switch cluster has a spare spot for the rear fog light switch right below the front fog light switch in US models.

I'll have a look at the parts database tomorrow and compare the part numbers for the switch cluster from the European to the US model and if I find anything of interest, I'll post it here.

X6 rear lights are quite big and quite highly visible, , and quite high enough positioned.. .We even got leds. Audi got that string of daylight led's in the front, but that's a fad already. I just want to know if there's any case of an X6 rear ended because of fog.

I don't think it matters much what car you drive, how high your lights are or how bright they are. If the fog is thick enough, no matter what car you drive, you can still get easily rear ended. It depends on how fast the car behind you is going and if the driver pays enough attention to the road and traffic conditions to avoid hitting you.

The rear fog lights should help though.

True, but usually I notice sooner rear lights of trucks in the fog. .size matters. . . I guess high position helps. That's why they put that led brake lamp up behind the rear window, on most passenger cars. . I guess. When visibility is poor at distance, we all have the tendency to look higher above the ground.

The reason the high mounted stop light (the break light you usually see in the rear window area) was positioned in the center and higher than the normal break lights, is so that a car driving behind you can hopefully see the car that is breaking in front of you! The idea behind it is/was to prevent possible multi car crashes by making sure that the driver in the 3rd car can see when the driver in the 1st car is slowing down. It has nothing to do with fog.
