why am i feeling a difference..

i had dropped off my 2013 328i sport for service (normal) and had a loaner.

this was a 2014 328i just regular no line small rims/ fat tires etc.

the brakes are extremely better and much more touchy in the loaner BMW.. even the acceleration and sound of the engine seems better (yes i am positive it is a 328i loaner).

is there a difference just due to the year???

maybe cause i have larger rims (m5 reps 19") the brakes dont feel as responsive as the loaner?

How many miles does your car have and how many miles does the loaner have? Could it be just the new car feel..

Sound is from the fake note coming out the speakers, brakes might be from being newer and less rotational mass from the smaller wheels.

99% sure it's the wheels. Replicas tend to be heavy and even 3lb difference between the OEM and replica will make a huge difference.

the 2014 328's have active sound.

I too felt a difference when i took my '13 in for service and got a '14 loaner......but the difference was NEGATIVE.

my car is M-sport with X-drive.....so normal suspension...no DHP. the loaner I got was a base model X-drive....so virtually the same set up. but it felt SO MUCH WORSE. The car only had 5k miles....so i dont think it was abused that bad. but it was actually scary to drive...didnt feel planted

I though the xDrive cars without Adaptive have the same dampers/springs on both M Sport and non M Sport.

My XI M Sport handles like a Buick when I push it.... cant wait for Koni to release something!!!

my car just hit 20k and the 14' had about 3k on it.. as for the noise of the engine it was different for sure. not from the speakers. my engine is virtually noiseless compared to the 14' i had. and im not referring to an obnoxious noise just a subtle vrrrroom.

As for the brakes - the base brakes feel more grabby initially but sport/msport ones feel more linear.

The sound and feeling of better acceleration could be a combination two things:
- could be you have an N20 and the loaner is an N26 engine.
- the base car's smaller wheels and tires are actually lighter and better for performance . This will be especially evident if your car has the heavy 19" wheels (I know because I went directly from the base 17" setup to a set of 19" 403s).
