I noticed this also after 2 Euro Deliveries and even after asking a few locals never got a clear answer. Also most Bimmers were Black (by far) then silver and some white.

"Model designation deletion" exists as a free option in Europe. Why people do it? Probably so nobody can see you drive the cheapest BMW and can't afford a better one. If I was buying a 420i, I would pick M Sport variant and delete the badge

It is quite difficult to make the high priced performance M cars look like a cheaper version such a 320i or 420i because the twin exhaust and the rest of the M car bodywork kit is difficult to hide.

So in Europe people are trying to hide their vehicle's designation while over here in the states people are getting ///M badges for the basic cars.

That also happens in the UK. Very confusing to you guys, but there you go, that is us Brits trying to confuse everyone.

Case in point. On my way home today, I spotted a debadged bright blue 5 series, M sport body, black wheels. I was absolutely sure it was an M5 until I got closer. Dunno what it was. Could have been 520d for all I know, but you couldn't tell, and that's the whole point.

A lot of people over here debadge for that cleaner look and ease of washing, waxing.
Also with the Xdrives it gets a bit cluttered on the back end. As for hiding cheapness $71000 for a 330d Xdrive.... I also had the side msport badges removed as part of the order. So, it looks clean and tidy, other motorists don't know for sure what you are driving (BMW spotters will though) It's also a bit crass when people ADD badges, that look at me stuff is rather pathetic. |

Yeah, except all those castles and stuff...

Well this is BMW doing their best to convince everyone that they are driving something higher up the social aspirational ladder and that the M badge is something better than it really is.

My 128i got funny looks in Germany because it had the badges, and they didn't know what it was.
