Rough shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear

I have a 6-speed transmission. When transmission is in "D" mode, you cannot even feel when gears a switched. However, when transmission is switched to either "D/M" or "Manual", then switching between all gears is smooth except for 2nd to 3rd gear, which feels a little jerky. I have already replaced transmission fluid and filter few thousand miles ago.

Is anyone else experiencing the same thing with BMW 6-speed transmission?

Hi Igor! The S mode is rougher for me, too, esp 2nd to 3rd. It's been that way all along in my case. I have the Dinan tune, also. I have not gotten any transmission warnings since new, so thought the aggressive shifting in S was normal.

Thank you for the feedback, Jess. I am also hoping that this is normal. Since in "D" mode shift from 2nd to 3rd gear is as smooth as from any to any gear. I also found information that ratio difference is the most between 2nd and 3rd gears on those BMW ZIF 6-speed transmissions. Maybe that's the main reason then switched to 8-speed in F models, to resolve this issue of rough switching between 2nd and 3rd gears.

Mine shifts rough from first to second and sometimes from second to third with cold engine, not sure if that's okay.

I am not sure either. There are no other symptoms of any failure. Just wanted to see if anyone else with X6M E71 has the same issue.

I'm bringing mine for a full check next week on Tuesday, and will also ask if rough shifting is okay on a vehicle with 20K miles on it.

I'll keep you posted.
