Options are very limited when it comes to the trims on our X5s. Best bet is to either find a used set or go the vinyl route.

^^^ this too, though I'd be less inclined as vinyl can be easily removed should you need.

I actually did something very different for my E46 and went this route with vinyl. In person it looks awesome and I always get compliments from the guys at the dealership. Thinking of trying it on the X5 to see how it looks.

I don't recall the official name or brand, I'd have to look at my records, but I believe it's "honeycomb". At first my pops said it looked like snake skin and didn't really like it until he saw it in person. It's different.

I have a piano black set all boxed up. I was going to use it for a project, but unsure if I want to go through with it. If you are interested send me a pm and we can discuss details.

On BMWs of this generation, piano black was a individual order. So it's rare and expensive to begin with.

The cheapest way to get the look is to do a gloss black vinyl wrap

Not sure what you have now, but cheaper than buying, I'll swap you my piano black for carbon leather. I don't like the piano black..

Let me know!

That Vinyl is going to look like shit in person. Might as well spray paint the wood trim.

I think the best thing to do is remove it and have a paint shop paint it.

Have you actually seen vinyl wrapped trim? I only ask because I've worked with vinyl and it can actually look really good if installed right. I've done titanium, brushed aluminum, solid, and texture trim wraps and they all looked great.

Yeah, I hate my brown wood as well. I'm gonna wrap it in gloss black or matte charcoal when I have the time. If you guys going to remove the trims, water transfer is another option that I'm thinking to do too
