Smile Sneak-Peak of Major Home Remodeling Project

This particular project is a looooong time in the making and very over due. The reason for the delay is that we had contemplated moving. But we decided that having such a wonderful (top academic elementary schools in the state) school only a couple of blocks walking distance, and our youngest still in second grade, we'd allow him to finish out here. That's at least 3yrs more.
Back story... My wife and I before kids, went out and traveled often. We both love to dance and enjoy socializing and hosting parties. And I was huge in the club/bar scene back in the day. I have invested in a club or two as well and am looking to open my own soon. Many of the houses these days build with "formal living and dining areas". The problem is, those area are mostly for show and rarely even used. We eat in the dining area in our kitchen and we spend all of our time in our entertaining/living area. So needless to say, the furniture and decor were in serious need of upgrades from the floor to the furniture! After discussing it for months, and going to hotels, bars, restaurants and furniture stores to draw inspiration, I told her that I wanted to create a "in-home Lounge". This would resolve 2 big issues for us: the much needed remodel/freshening of the space but also increase the social and parties frequency we host at home tremendously. My wife of course, loved the idea!
So where to start? The floor. IMO, nothing impacts an area quite like the floor. I looked through so many styles of wood and tile I literally can not tell you how many. But I knew I wanted a 'dramatic change'. So I decided to go with this grey wood-like tile. Not only does it look like wood it is textured like wood. Once the floor was selected, I then located some contemporary furniture a few weeks ago. And just this weekend, my painters finished. I also found the perfect bar being delivered this week. But to really make it pop, I will be searching for some custom stone to be cut and placed on the bar counter top. Now I'm looking for some amazing art pieces (paintings and metal) So stay tuned...

Looks good - how old is the house?
Plaster or drywall?
Just went through similar and it was crazy working with the subcontractors.

I was going to wait until AFTER the project including furniture was completed... But just for you, here's the before shots to truly appreciate the huge changes...

As you can see... It was very 'Traditional Styling'. From the carpet, furniture and even walls.

Let me start by saying it looks awesome!!! specially after seeing before pics, a couple of observations I noticed.. How long are the tiles lengthwise?? they look short in order to imitate wood planks but maybe its just the way the pic came out, and did the tile guy ever offered you the idea of installing that kind of tile without the grout gaps?? I would have gone that route it looks a lot more realistic IMO, same way marble tiles are installed. However still looks very good!

Thank you! Great questions.

These tiles are not tiny at all: 22"x7"

The grout lines you mention are actually a "desirable look" at least around here or when you discuss it with installers and retailers. We actually went with the smallest width: 5/8 of an inch. I hand picked the grout color to give contrast and to show the detail of the meticulous placement of the tiles.
In our Entertainment area where the tile is 20"x20", the grout lines are nearly a half inch.

I am a fan of WHITE doorways, window sills, and trim!!!!

And bathrooms. Told the wife she could pick any color for the outside, but the crapper is a shade of white.

Looks great. Congrats. I've been dragging my feet on a master bath project because I dread the whole process from getting quotes to dealing with contractors getting the work done (not to mention the $$$).

Why thank you!

Saw this piece right as we were about to leave Nebraska Furniture (place is ginormous!) Saturday night. Don't know how many of you have been there but it is 500,000 sq ft of retail shopping space. They have just about everything imaginable for the home except nice wall art.

You lost me. If you're referring to the painting, that is an original by an artist friend of ours of my wife. I can assure you... It is one of a kind.

C5's avatar is a woman with blonde hair covering one eye and much of her face on one side. Very similar to the painting you have...

Looks fantastic! I love plank tile! I just remodeled the second bathroom and I used Grey wood grain Plank Tile and it came out awesome! I used a lighter grout color tho to show the grout line size better.
