Car is jerking and at times stalling with cold start

Has anyone else experienced the same problem and if yes, what could be possible solutions for this one? This is happening to my 2011 X6M and it is only in the morning, after all-night rest or cold-start. Car seems to be jerking in "R" reverse mode and for that fact in "D" drive mode as well. This morning it stalled all together and I had to re-start it. Once it engine is warmed up, this problem is gone.

I had a similar issue with my car, the engine got an unstable iddle, sometimes was necessary to stop and re start the engine, usually on mornings with a cool engine.
The problem got so bad that I had to tow the car to the dealership, the diagnostic was a few faulty injectors, so there was no other choice other than replace all 8 injectors.
For my surprise, the new injectors had a different part number, that means they are not the same, they are a new generation, I was also told by an insider, when a part number changes usually means it is a new generation of the part (I will call it a "silent recall")
Now, I feel my car like it gained 100Hp's, the car drives like a whole new car, I'm so happy with the change that I don't regret spending $2000 in that job, its a another car, believe me.

A similar story happened to me when my dealer changed by warranty my front brakes (the new pad's had a new part #) because they made a terrible noise when driving in reverse.

Hope all this will help in some way

That is a great information. Thank you very much for your comprehensive reply to my issue. I have a feeling that mine is identical. I will look into replacing fuel injectors on it, might as well change spark-plugs while at it. As for the brakes, I am noticing the same problem. Seems like front brakes make too much high-pitch noise when braking hard. Maybe time to replace brake pads to the "new part#'s"

At least here in spanish, BMW dealership calls it a "Puma" case, is like a "secret" code-name for issues like the one's I described, it will be good that you mention that to your dealer, maybe they use the same code-name and if they do, they will know pretty well what exactly you are talking about.

Good luck

Do you remember if there were any fault codes observed with fuel injectors issues you were having?

Plenty, don't know which one's but the dealer scanner was getting lot's of faults, I also remember they changed a sensor and a high pressure hose too

I would suggest it's either the spark plugs or the fuel injectors.

No, my car is out of warranty since Dec 2012, here in Costa Rica, warranty is just 24 months, now you can buy an extension, not my case
What they do sometimes, they give you a nice discount or "warranty cortesy" for special cars like M's, here we pay a lot of import duties, so usually we have a 40% difference in parts cost against USA, labor is also mandated by BMW standards

Did you get to know if the new injectors are the same part # as the old one's?

Well I guess that everyone in this thread was wrong. After three days of diagnostics by authorized BMW Service Center, it was determined that the problem is with my transmission. Recommended Service - replace transmission

It is out of warranty; however, I just took a delivery of it. Basically purchased it from Advantage BMW Midtown of Houston TX and they hid this major problem from me prior to selling and delivering the car to me. This whole thing is not smelling very good ...

Holy crap. Dude good luck getting it sorted. I don't know what's possible but I'd consult with an attorney about making them take the car back. I am sure you're considering all your options already.

Crooks out to screw people, never a good thing.

It's an X6M, too, with who knows what other problems.

Really sorry about your situation man.

Honestly, I would have never guessed that it's a transmission problem. Was leaning more towards bad spark plugs / injectors. But a reputable local BMW Service Center came back with "transmission needs a replacement" news. Hopefully will be able to sort it out without involving attorneys. So far its not looking good. We will see ...

Just happened to my 3.5 this morning. It was about 19 degrees F outside, started the car and after a few seconds put it in reverse it immediately stalled. This happened twice and then the car jerked a bit. After a few restarts it was ok. Calling the dealer now...

Still under warranty thankfully! Appt next week to diagnose...

Last time I started the car it almost stalled while still in park. Might not be the transmission. I did not have these issues last winter.
