X5 2011 Connected Drive

I have a new to me X5. Wondering how the Connected Drive app works on my iPhone.

I have the app installed and I entered in my VIN number but it says I need to retrieve a message in iDrive to verify? Not sure how to do that.

Also if I click on the BMW Online it says I need a Bluetooth data connection? Any suggestions? Thanks!

Many options on the old I drive systems no longer work as BMW dropped the 2g and 3G network that it was working on or something like that. . I forget exactly what no longer works, perhaps someone can shed some light on that.

Only year 2014 and later is supported. They cut the cord on all the 2013 and earlier cars.
So no internet and no connectivity to BMW assist and BMW online. But anything through your phone may still work like apps and whatnot.

Well it seems they are working on a workaround so that older vehicles will be retrofittable with new technology
