Well if your looking at keeping it for a while mine is a 2012 xdrive35i premium with 110k miles on it, Origanal everything, only problems so far where the leaking oil from the valve cover gasket and oil filter housing (common) on the n55, thought it needed a new transfer case but just needed new fluid.

Their are tunes out their for the N55, Dinan, makes one that will increase the torque to 400 and the hp to 350, not to shabby as the engines lighter as well so less weight up front.

I've had two dealers and some BMW enthusiasts tell me to steer clear of the v8s even with the extended warranties as they live at the dealers, instead of your driveway and who wants that.

I know you always have the few that don't give problems but it seems like of all the options the v8 are trouble.

In fact I kid you not as he was telling me this a v8 50i x5 pulled in the shop and was doing this to the floor. Customer complained of a burning oil smell!

As an owner of the 50i, you will frown on the way to the shop but will have a shit kicking grin when you drive it out. The thing is a blast to drive. I went this route because I smile when I drive it. Warranty until 100k miles helps my tolerance level.
