Broken Axle
For some reason my previous thread does not want to open, so i am making a new one.
I think I broke the axle after I hit a curb in the snow. Here are some pictures: Do you think it could be fixed? Or do you think it would be cheaper to get a new one? |

Ouch that's bad. My friend's C350 had a similar issue in the front. Cost him $12k. (but his didn't look anywhere near as bad). And he hit the curb at a high speed (I think around 20-25MPH). Was your's fast?

It seems very minor to repair.

Yea i hit it at about the same speed (20-25 mph), and i was told by a roommate that it would probably be easier/more practical to just to get a new x6 because the axle is such an expensive thing to fix. Is that true? Because I didn't think it was that serious.

Laws of Physics.
Doesn't matter what u drive, even a tank on tracks.
If there is sufficient momentum & NO traction, any vehicle will skid, at that point steering does not exist, u have no control. Inertia dictates that u travel in the direction of the path when u still had traction (Newton's Law)... over a bridge.. at a tree...well at least u didn't have someone chasing u w/ a golf club! |

Yeah, it's too expensive to replace an axle.. Just give me your X6 and tell your dad to get a new one..

What does that have to do with anything? And eg3 thats not going to happen. How much do u think a new axle is going to cost me? be honest.. |

As somebody else said, you'll have to show your X6 to the dealership and get an estimate. We're not mechanics here and I don't think anybody bent their axle yet. However, my guess is that you bent your left side suspension only. That'd be the wishbone structure beneath the wheel. That is based on your word that you were only around 20mph only. If that is the case, it won't cost you a fortune and no, you don't need to get a new car.. Even if it's expensive to fix, it WILL be more logical to get it fixed than getting a new car..

I agree, get the estimate from BMW. I suspect a very expensive lesson for you, sonny.
