5.1 audio internal DVD drive

Did notice yesterday that my Navigation DVD drive plays cd (thought it was just for the nav DVD)

Have anyone tried with an audio DVD with 5.1 sound?

Did make some SACD (super audio cd) with 5.1 sound but the only thing that came out was a zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz sound...

Maybe it must be DVD Disc to make the 5.1 work (if it does at all)

Thanks

In the past I took the navigation DVD, ripped it and combined it with about 4GB of MP3s and burned everything back onto a DL DVD+R (8.5GB) disc. The navigation data is usually less than 4GB, so you get 4GB+ that you can use for MP3s. Have not tried any multichannel music files in the navigation drive.

The reason the SACD didn't work for you is because it uses a completely different encoding mechanism and the iDrive or sound system in any BMW is NOT compatible with SACD. As far as I know only Sony supports this standard (I could be wrong though).

Ok.

Think most home entertainment system can handle sacd (mine do)
My Nav DVD is about 6gb had to burn the copy on a dual layer disc...

It would have been so nice to try 5.1 sound.
Will put a DVD with Dolby pro logic in it and give it a try
