Extended Warranty

I have a 2012 X5 3.5 with 41,788 miles racing close to warranty expiration 5/15. What quotes are you guys receiving for extended warranty?

Which one do you want? Powertrain Plus? Gold? Platinum? 60/100? 72/100? 84/70? 84/100?

Anywhere from 30% off to straight MSRP. You need to do your homework, search this forum, search other BMW forums, and see what folks are getting. Above all, you need to shop around, as prices vary wildly. Often, you're buying out of state in most cases.

This exact topic was covered yesterday, and almost on a weekly basis. There is a plethora of info out there already for you.

Any info will be helpful, I am thinking of Gold though. Which one did you get?

Mine was a CPO from an Audi dealership, so I didn't have to buy an extended warranty. But I can tell you MSRP on Gold 72/100K is $4,320.

Of course your dealership is offering a non BMW warranty ... it's just another "product" they sell, with a 50% margin. That doesn't mean it is the right warranty for you.

Read the fine print ..., ask for a sample contract ..., make sure it spells out what is excluded (you want an exclusionary warranty, not an inclusionary warranty because then you don't know what is NOT covered!!). I hear that the Lexus/Toyota Platinum warranty is an excellent, exclusionary warranty ...

If you're going to get a warranty, get the BMW EVP. Gold is essentially what pre-1/1/14 CPO was, Platinum is essentially post-1/1/14 CPO. There is a $750 markup on any EVP plan no matter what level or duration, so use that to negotiate. I have a local dealer who will do it for cost + 100 (read $650 off MSRP) and that was going to be my plan if I found a non-CPO vehicle.

Note however that a key read is required for BMW EVP so that kind of limits your options in terms of shopping, unless you feel comfortable sending your key somewhere else.

Cost + $100 (or $650 off MSRP) is the best price I have ever heard of.

See MSRP below:

Not all do the key read.... I had thought that too, but got around it with a picture of my mileage.

Yep. Same dealer is willing to do $100 over cost for MP, but that's only a $500 markup.

A little surprised about no key read required, when I was shopping this everyone I talked to said that a key read is now required.
