I can attest to it 100%. the SA at Bellevue seemed good, but the foreman always tries to get out of fixing stuff with the standard "seems normal to me" crap unless the problem stares right at their faces (coolant leak, for e.g.), and makes you feel like a whiny customer for bringing up something that didn't exist in the first place. I have a dedicated thread on it.

After hearing the "its normal tune" for three different issues, I've moved on to BMW Seattle due to referrals from fellow members like jiggz, and am much happier - got all 3 issues fixed at the very first attempt. The SA that jiggz referred to has been great so far. The foreman, Trent, is awesome - he takes you seriously and is happy to listen AND to spend his time allowing the customers to demonstrate the problem. I recently got my evap leak fixed this way (20+ hr job). He took me to the garage where my car was parked and I was able to show him the odor on cold start -- this was after a few attempts where they were unable to reproduce the problem themselves.

I would imagine there would be more issues with the diesel and Ms given the massive torque down low, but I haven't seen many M users jumping in. Anyone?

What X models and years are affected?

Hello,

I have an early build 2013 X6M. Do I need to be concerned with the driveshaft issue?
Kind Regards,

I went to the dealer a few month ago to get DEF refilled and an oil change.

BMW performed the recall and had to replace my drive shaft.

Kind Regards,
I haven't seen a definitive answer on which vehicles are affected, but I seem to remember something about it being addressed for the 2012 MY. (my SA may have mentioned this verbally to me, I just can't recall exactly)
I just checked my 2012 VIN on the BMW recall (see previous page on this thread for link) and it stated No Outstanding Recalls for this vehicle. And I do not believe mine has been replaced. Not sure if just an inspection counts as them having performed the work though.

You need to crawl under the car and look for this part number on a white sticker on the drives shaft: 26207597649.

If you have that number, your drive shaft is DOOMED! Insist on having it replaced!! Don't leave the dealership (or just leave the car behind and walk away to make a point).

I had mine checked today (mine is a MY 2012 with only 26K mi!) and I had that p/n ... my tech said he found "bearing grease" splatters around the front ball-joint area and against the transmission housing ... a STRONG indication that the u-joint is loosing its lubrication and failure is imminent. Mine is being replaced.

Was this part number/sticker visible/in plain sight? This part # appears to be the front drive shaft, so roughly below where the front seats are? I was curious if I could see anything but it all appears to be covered by heat shields/plates under there? Though I couldn't really get all the way under like I was hoping…

FWIW, RealOEM indicates this part # is applicable 'up to 02/2013' builds.

Yes, it is visible. That drive shaft is almost directly under the driver seat and not covered. Note the rust on the front u-joint and flange.

You can even turn the shaft with your hand to look for the white label. I had my two front wheels up in the air with two (3000 lb) jack stands supporting the car.

Drive shaft Broken on Parkway

Accelerating onto the parkway last night in my 2011 Xdrive50i with 74k miles and heard a terrible metal crunching noise. Pulled over quickly and saw the drive shaft hanging down. The car was towed off to some shop but I'm not sure what to expect now.

Can just the joint on the end be replaced? Does the whole unit need to be swapped? Was there a recall because I can't find any online but I see the part was superseded by a newer model. What should I expect here?

Thanks for your help!

Wow, that's terrible. I'm not quite sure but people on other posts are receiving a letter for extending the warranty to 10/120k on this drive-shaft failure. I thought this was failing on the front side not on the back. Call your SA and tell them, as you said, they change the part for an updated one so something is wrong and they need to cover it. Here is the letter that other people have been receiving. I haven't get mine either so.

I cannot thank you enough for replying with that info so quickly. Apparently, the whole repair is covered under this program and I am working on getting the car to a BMW dealer now. You made my day. Thanks again.
