X6M Options vs. 2010 550i Gran Turismo
Since the inception of the 2010 550i Gran Turismo on the BMW USA "Build Your Own" website, there are some nice features to be noted that the GT has to offer, which would have been a nice option to have for the X6M.
1. Black Nappa Leather 2. Rear-seat entertainment (headrest instead of middle console mounted) 3. Night Vision with Pedestrian Detection 4. Luxury Rear Seating Package (gives you rear comfort seats) The perforated leather seats in the GT look superior to the ones offered in the X6M. Nappa Leather is a nice option vs Full Merino in the X6M. The rear seat entertainment is far superior in the GT, having it mounted on the back of the front seats looks much cleaner. The biggest one is the Night Vision with Pedestrian Detection, it pops up on your HUD and its just a good conversation piece. The GT has an awesome rear center console which makes a nice arm rest. Unless you are concerned about your rear seat occupants performing fellatio the middle console shouldnt get in the way much. |

Good points though ... I wonder when (if ever) the X6 is going to be due for a facelift/mid-cycle update? Maybe we would see some of there features then ... |

Undoubtably, the X6M team at BMW will learn some valuable lessons from its first year production X6M model. Dont get me wrong, the options are pretty darn good, but for a 100k car that was only spaced a couple months ahead of production from the GT, they should have integrated some of these newer concepts into the X6M.
It appears as though the X6M is running on old technology now whereas the GT, a couple months down the road gets cool features unavailable to the X6M. Not to mention that the GT has a twin turbo V8 as well. Although its only kicking out 400 hp. The point I am trying to make, is that the exclusiveness of an X6M is reaching gray area. Another point about the X6M is the brake system. For the kind of money you are spending, a more eye catching brake system would have been nice to make the car look more sporty. |

I drove the X6M and GT prior to my decision to get the X6 5.0. The X6M did not convince me of its "performance statistics". It could have been for several reasons: cold day, car not broken in, etc. Anyway, could not justify extra $25K considering my 5.0 will be better equipped.

It has Navigation. In fact, the 550i GT has the same V8 Twin Turbo 400 HP engine as the X6 50i. The only difference between the X6 50i and the 550i GT are cosmetic differences and a $4,000 base price difference. BMW doesnt even bother to mention on the "Build Your Own" section that its Twin Turbo because they dont want X6 customers to get pissed. The 550i GT is a slap in the face for people who own the X6 50i because the 550i GT received the 8 gear transmission. The 550i GT was designed to look girlie and feminine. Talk about dropping the ball and screwing over your X6 customers, by putting the same engine and better transmission in a cheaper car. |

50i is going to be in every car that used to have the V8... It is the nature of the business. Do you think there are CL63 owners out there going.. "my car sucks because some kid is driving a $55,000.00 car with the same engine!"
No.. There isn't. The engine is a great engine just like the N62 is. The 5 series is going to be brand new.. and with its introduction comes the new N55 (I6 turbo) and our engine the N62 (V8 Twin Turbo). They are not going to make engines car specific. That would not be cost effective. |

Good points guys.
I haven't looked into it, but I am assuming you can't get the 40hp performance upgrade on the GT (yet?). That is a nice performance gain to keep the GT in the rearview if necessary. |
