Brake pads short life!!!
I only have 20000km on the X6 and iDrive tells me that I have to change brake pads in 5000km/~3000miles.
Is this normal at all? Sometimes I hear a noise from brakes too and this is different from squeaking noise that I used to have last winter. Brake material does not seem to be up to bmw quality comparing with my older 5 series. Please let me know what is your experience. |

1) Modern cars don't use drum braking systems anymore. They use rotors. Still used on heavy trucks though.
2) Your car weighs 2 1/2 tons. There is no compound in the world that will last long enough to stop something that heavy on a consistant basis and last as long as your brake pads on the 5 series. |

Wtf!!! I have done 30200km in a year and IDrive tells me to change front brake pads in 26000 and the rear in 34000!!! So this is a bit awkward, i think they warn out very quickly!! Have it checked m8!!

I'm not surprised that they wear out so quickly when stopping such a heavy vehicle that people undoubtedly drive enthusiastically.
But brakes are covered under BMW maintenance, so wear them out as many times as you want to in 4 year / 50K miles. |

I hope it is just broken sensors. Will post back after the check. By the way I still have to pay for brake parts like pads even under warranty! |

For what it's worth, replaced my wife's brake pads on her Cayenne twice in 37,000 miles. Suspect mostly due to almost all city driving. Also, they are allegedly "high performance" pads, not quite sure what that means, the fronts throw a lot of dust.

It comes down to how you drive. All highway and the pads will last 50k miles or more.
I suspect you are doing a lot of stop and go or breaking excessively hard. No worries though. That is what free maintenance is for.

The reason for the part number change is because they changed the brake pads supplier so they use a new part #

Brake Pads Wear
In Canada, warranty does not cover wear & tear items . U have to pay xtra if u want the wear /tear maintenance warranty.
City stop & go driving obviously will wear out ur tires & brake pads / rotors /spark plugs/ motor oil sooner. U can gear down b 4 u brake to reduce brake wear/heat but transmission maintenance /repair eventually may cost more than brake pads! Drive spirited on the highways where there's less traffic & so less brake use to scrub ur speed & take it easy in urban driving. Less wear & tear on the suspension & U'll get btr gas mileage too! Carry the big stick but u don't have to use it. |

great advice from everyone! I took it for service and was told that this is normal for this car depending on the driving style. So I guess I will keep it cool in city traffic.
The new question then would be how much regular kick downs will affect transmission life! (or DOING lunch control- revving a little before releasing brake) |
