3rd row seat... is it useful?
Hello.
I am looking at getting an X5, but only with the 3rd row seat option installed. My question to those who have this option... how big and useful are these 3rd row seats? I have a 3 and a 5 year old that would surely fit in them, but how about adults? Granted, I would only be using the 3rd row when I have guests in town, but it would be useful nonetheless. thanks in advance for any advice!

3rd Row
YES!!! Your small kids are the only people that would be able to fit. I had the 2013 X5 3.5 with 3rd Row, came in handy with family wanting to travel. Now I upgraded to the 2013 X5M and I wish it had this option.

Yes, good for kids sup to 10 I would say, for longer trips. For short trips, anyone under 5'8" would survive. I recently had 5 teenagers riding in the back: 3 in second row, 2 in 3rd. The drive was about an hour - didn't hear any complaints (they wouldn't dare of course).

Yeah I have third row seat but used it once it's good for short trips as oppose to long trips and you loose a lot of cargo space. So can't pack too much luggage. Just my opinion

Very useful. My family would not be able to carpool if it wasn't for it. My kids are 7 and 3. I think it doesn't hurt resale value as well.

thanks very much for the advice...
now for the next dilemma... look for a current model or wait until the new one comes out 2 years from now!

Lease now for 3 years. Enjoy current incentives/credits and buy in 3 years with the benefit of avoiding the first MY of a new generation, which historically has bugs to be fixed.

How much will you really use it? 10x a year? You will pay 1500 to 2000 more for one. Would you buy a 2000 tv and only watch it 10x a year?

since it is almost time to sell the X3, might as well look for something that can tackle all of my families challenges.

3rd row also comes with auto leveling suspension. If you tow or load heavy loads, I'd get it even if a person never ever sits in the back for the life of the car
