For what it's worth, I did the same on the sides of my 3.5 and also the back. I used fish rigging line, available at tackle stores (it's like a very heavy duty dental floss). Unfortunately the BMW emblem on the trunk lid is held in place via two small holes. The rigging line sawed through the plastic pins with some difficulty breaking several times. However, I got lucky, it's a black metallic car, and I went to the local BMW dealer's body shop. They gave me two small flat black plastic plugs that filled the holes nicely and the plugs are almost invisible. The plugs, I believe, are used in interiors to hold panels in place. Obviously this may not work on a different colored car. Regardless, the car is completely void of all emblems except for the one on the hood. (PM me if you want pictures. For some stupid reason, probably me lack of expertise, I can't download onto this web site.)

I just got bored and took off my badges this morning. Definately gives it a cleaner look. The took off the side and rear badges. I just used a small pair of pliers and pulled each piece off, very easy to do. The only problem was I needed to use a little compound to get off the last of the glue.
