Code Speedo to read more accurate?
New X5 E70 2013 30d owner here.
One thing that bothers me immediately is the speedo which reads about 8% too high. I have the heads up display, and that's all I look at. I don't care if the analog speedo is off. Is there a way to adjust the speedo to read more accurate? I have the BimmerGeeks standard tools for coding. Last edited by DialedIn; 12-05-2023 at 10:53 AM.. |

I've had several BMW's and they all seem to read faster than the actual speed. I use a satellite based app to determine my actual speed and then set the cruise control accordingly.

There are options in the gage cluster module (I can't remember the actual module name in NCSEXPERT, nor the specific lines of code) which will help. They will not remove all of the "error" however.
To remove all the error look into a program called Perfekt Toolbox |

I will go back to my E92 and fix it's speedo as well. I had the Carly App that let me get a more accurate digital reading in the E92, but it was never truly accurate. |

It's pretty interesting when you get into it because the "error" isn't linear as you would expect it to be if it were in fact error. It increases with speed. |

I just did the speedo calibration with the Perfekt Toolbox tool and it was super easy and took like 2 mins. By far the most rewarding mod I've ever done to my BMWs. |

1) Install BimmerGeeks Standard Tools
2) Install Perfekt Toolbox 3) Connect your laptop to the OBD2-port with your K+DCAN cable 4) Open Perfekt Toolbox and read from ECU and save the current settings (save to PTG-file) 5) Change the numbers for the Effective (real) speed (km/h) I changed my numbers based on the 50km/h number that I figured was off by 7%, some excel calculations told me this was still 2,3% off the "real" speed. So I just added 2,3% to all the speed values: 10.2 51.1 122.8 266.0 These numbers worked for me on my car with the stock rims and stock tyre dimensions. 6) Write the new numbers to the ECU by clicking "Write to ECU". 7) Test drive with a trusted GPS device to get accurate comparative data and make adjustments as needed.
