Service not due for one year?
Hello Everyone,
Purchased an '09 X5 3.0i back in December 2008. Had it for 5 months now and decide to call the service department for an oil change. To my surprise the service adviser said not to bring the vehicle in until the service light is stating service is required. Is this utter BS? I have always been under the impression an oil/filter change is needed every 3 months/3,000 miles. Your thoughts. |

A modern premium car like a Porsche, BMW, etc. with large oil vats, high quality syntheic oil, etc. can go 15k miles or more without an oil change. BMW changes oil free of charge every year or when the oil count light comes on, whichever is first. BTW, BMW has been changing oil every year/15k miles for the last decade. Where have you been? Now there are some old schoolers who think the world will end as we know it if you do not change your oil every 3k miles. This habit was brought on by guess who, the oil companies and the dealers. If it makes you feel better, go pay the $125 every few months for an oil change. Many do. I personally like visiting the dealer once a year and not every few weeks. Life is too short.

It has been a year. Call your dealer and schedule an appointment as they have no idea it has been a year. Well, they do, but they don't monitor that aspect of service.
