Backup camera slow to activate

On my wife's Infinity FX50s, the backup camera image turns on as soon as reverse is engaged. On my X6, it takes several seconds for the screen to switch to the camera view. Especially when you've just started the vehicle and are waiting for everything to "boot up". I don't imagine there's any way to speed this up, but I find myself not waiting at times and just backing up, which isn't a good thing on the X6!

It's an irritant to me too...Software is slow and poor relative to the Japanese competition. Camera quality is bad as well - for a vehicle of any price let alone one at $70k++

I must agree that the camera though very helpfull with the x6 is irritating especially the delay of clicking back to the homescreen after your in drive...the whole idrive is irritating and could not be any less user friendly. My Infiniti QX 56 computer system was so much better. BUT, I still love my X6 otherwise!!

I am experiencing the same with my X6...slowness and image quality..quality was little enhanced by adjusting the brighness and contrast..but it is still slow...especially when your watching TV or DVD on the screen(which my car has)..and you shift to reverse..u will wait alot till the camera screen appears..sometimes i am even scared that the same delay is applied on the parking sensors !! so i reverse with more care.. what i heared is that X6 comes in 3 levels of full option..the best camera view is option 1...the rest are bad..although its a full option...

However, i still LOVE my X6...

This has been talked about a lot since day one in the forum and everyone pretty much agrees this SUCKS. The aftermarket camera I installed on my X5 engaged instantly (was triggered via relay connected to reverse lights). BMW is falling down when its comes to using technology, they are very good at putting cutting edge in their cars it's the functioning of that technology that is lacking.

I didn't get the back up camera on my car, however, this is a problem on the 09's from what I understand. Is this still a problem on the '10's?

It is not a problem related to just the '09s it is the same for all older model Idrive systems and happens on the '08 and '09 X6 models.

It is fixed on the '10 models because now everything is HDD based and boots up almost instantly.

I don't think it's going to be slow because it's the same idrive system and rearview cam as in the x6M and when I testdrove that before ordering my 50i. The system works better because the new idrive is hard drive based and boots up faster. Maybe some of the M owners can chime in on this.

Well... one more thing to add to the "could-have-had" (if only I'd waited) list!

Good info here that explains the iDrive/camera boot time.

yeah thats why I decided to wait.. in my logic if i was going to spend $80,000 on buying a car i might as well wait a few extra months and get the most bang for the buck.

Waiting is good for the new iDrive, bad because MSRP went up over $5k.

Also, there is already an improved iDrive in the works coming out in the next 2-3 years. Maybe you should wait until then? or maybe wait for the model redesign?

If you wait too long, I don't think the large engine choices will be around much longer.

actually I ordered the car for the same price that was quoted to me for an 09 and I even got the new performance upgrade so in my case waiting was good.
