Arrow E70 X5 4.8 x-drive vs 550i. Where do i get one?

Hi to all of the BMW fans and owners!
I have a couple of problems: 1. I cannot decide whether i want 2009-2011 X5 4.8 x-drive or 2011+ F10 550i. Background: i have owned 5 series E39 for about 7+ years now and i LOVE IT!!!!
Problem 2. These cars are very, i mean very hard to find in the (Atlanta) area especially. Background: There are a lot of X5s 3.0is, 3.5 x-drive, 528i, 535i in different colors with different options on it.

A must-have combo for me for either model is black on black, V8 engine, i don't really care about MPGs a lot. Automatic transmission, multi-contour seats, backup camera. CPO, warranty up to 100k miles

I am willing to pay up to $50k for the right one.
I am currently contacting my local BMW center to "hook me up" with one.

Its funny how someone with an ability to spend a $50k on used car is having a hard time finding one...

If anyone on this forum is working for BMW please share any tips on how do i get a deal, what can be negotiated, when is the best time to find one?
Which one is better? what options are a "must have"
did any one have both cars? How do they compare?
My current 5 series is an awesome fun car with 200k on the clock still running strong, so i am sold out to BMW. I love long road trips, so which car would be better?
Any advice would be appreciated!!!

If you are looking at a 2011 F10 550i, I'd certainly add a 2011 X5 50i to the list. same motor and auto, it seemed more fun to drive than the 550i.
Note the 2011 X5 first came out May 2010. My 2011 X5 50i M Sport is nearly 2 years old and I'm still thrilled with its performance and handling for such a heavy thing.

What's similar about a mid size sedan and an SAV. Drive them both... Then pick the one you like.

i know that x5 and 550 are very different, and i like both of them equally, which is why it is hard to choose one. even worse, they are hard to find in the right combination to test drive them.

So today I went to the dealership and test drove the 2011 550i silver on black, multi contour fully loaded with 5k miles on the clock, and 2009 X5 4.8 x-drive, sport with sport seats, sport seats were the only thing that stopped me from putting in an offer. 42k miles on the clock warranty till 100k or ~2015. 550i was awesome, fast, big, comfy simply the dream, except for the price and silver exterior. I liked the X5 even more, somehow it handled great, big but doesn't drive like a big SUV, and i have driven many different SUVs, Steering is somewhat hard, i wounder if it has active steering, sales rep did'nt know much as far as options.
Anyways the whole test made my choice even harder, because now i want both of those cars.
In terms of luxury on a scale 1- 10, X5 was at around 9 and 550i was at about 12

Also comparing the 48i to the 50i is not a fair comparison..

48i is a 350hp/350lb tq and does 0-60 in 7.2 seconds engine
35i is a 300hp/300lb tq and actually goes 0-60 in 6.4 (because of the turbo)
50i is a 400hp/450lb tq (twin turbo) and goes 0-60 in 5.3 seconds

If your planning to mod, go with the 48i or 50i... BUt your better off doing a comparison between the 35i X5 and the 50i 5 series... not the 48i... Just my opinion...

Here is my point, where you are comparing how much horse power each car has, i am not comparing that, All i need is a V8, Almost new either X5 or 5 series.
I am trying to figure out which one is a better overall, i am not planning on drag racing either one of them, even thought that may happen, If i wanted a race car, i would go for an M3, i need a grown up car, that would be good for the family and friends to go anywhere across US and at the same time have fun on the backroads and dessert highways and if i ever have to to tow my old 5 series out of trouble ( God forbid) for around $50k. I do have a great Bimmer 5 series e39 manual that 's a pure fun, .

By the way thanks for the power comparison, i never put them that way.
Thank you for your opinion, this is exactly why i created this thread, to hear your opinion!!!
Love it

Ok. I had an E55 before I got the X. I loved it... It was fast, and looked great. But I am an SUV / truck guy. I like a bigger vehicle, plus I wanted something that would tow my track car. I had a pickup, but wanted to consolidate as well.
So.... Enter a respective handling, relatively quick SUV that can tow my car.
Sold.
I am just not a sedan guy. I hated getting in and out of it. Loved driving it though.
Good luck.
Bill

If the X5 steering is very heavy in a parking lot it does not have active steering. That would lighten it up as well as make it a quicker ratio. I have it and love it. I don't even notice the variable ratio.

good point!!
there is just one problem, none of the dealers have X5 50i CPO, they are still being leased by their first owners, most of X5s are 2009, 2010, these are the models with 4.8x-drive and dealers try to push them off the lot. I do like 2010+ updated I-drive but like i said, they are impossible to find espacially with the multicontour seat on black interior.
