Dealer Exchange window trim ?

Called the dealer.. The cost for the chrome trim for both sides is $1,200...(will be less if part of the buying deal)...+ some labor...

Not too bad , I thought....

Question:

would you trust the dealer to exchange the shadowline trim and replace it with the chrome? (snaps on ??) what about possible scratches or not adhering as well...

I am always worried when things are not from the factory...

I guess the B pilar will remain with the glossy black trim... probably better that way ..no ?

Thoughts?

$1200 + labor?

Call the option police. There is something wrong in trim land.

The trim for both sides is worth about $50. I could see the dealer charging $150 per side for $300 total.

And then 2 hours per side for labor @$125 per hour.

I come up with $800 installed. even than too much for me to even consider the switch.

I say save the loot for something else or get a quote at a body shop. The dealer is clearly marking up the trim which should not cost more than a couple hundred dollars.

If it helps, I will buy the black (take-off) trim as long as it will fit my non-sport model. I am right across the border in S.E. Michigan.
Best,
Brian

I would not mind a swap but I am now pretty sure i am waiting for the March 09 model with new i drive...so it will be a while.....

What about the actual work to do it ? you think a dealer or good body shop won't screw it up ?

I have a 2007 X5 with shadowline (black) window trim and am looking to swap with chrome trim. Anyone interested?
