It's $738.14 at http://www.tomkinsonbmwparts.com

Would the aluminum version ($1,225.32) be much lighter?

Hell yeah! $700 sounds like a steal next to $900. I'm not sure about the weight of the aluminum hood. Time to do some research.

Only the 2013 X6M has the raised hood not even the 13' X5M hood. I could only find the X5M hood on Tomkinsonbmwparts.com.

Yes, but they do seem have the aluminum version (from X6 Hybrid) for $1,097.54 (MSRP $1750) which does have the power-dome. That's almost a $200 savings from tomkinsonbmwparts.com.

Great find Rob! Maybe us locals can take a ride into Jersey together and pick it up and save on shipping!

These parts guys/departments don't know. Only actual installers/mechanics who have actually tried know. I've called tomkinsonbmw previously (haven't tried BMW of Morristown) and inquired whether the X6 Hybrid hood fits my X5M and the parts guy told me since its a different part number it might not fit. He couldn't give me a definite answer. That is why I turned to this forum to see if anyone actually tried this and knows whether it works or not. And to see if any other necessary parts need to be purchased in conjunction with this project.

Also, a lot of these parts sellers don't keep items in stock and they couldn't even verify what the parts look like (like in this example whether this part number is the one with the power-dome.)

I'd be interested to see if the aluminum is worth the extra money.

How much is a good paint job run now-a-days?

I don't have an X5M and am not really concerned with "lightening the weight" of my mechanically stock X5 35i. For simply an aesthetic improvement, I'll go with the cheaper OEM option. My current hood is probably steel, so....

As for the paint job, I'd imagine that $300 or less should take care of the hood.

I'm tempted to go to my local dealer and check it out myself. That power dome is pimp!

I've always liked the power dome look..especially on the M3. This thread is not going to be nice to my wallet. Once people start posting pictures of their new hoods, im gunna have to convince my wife that there has been a recall on the old hood and everybody is getting shipped one.

I know how you feel. The only way that I can keep money in my pocket is to stay off of the forum.
