GPS tracking

Hi! I read on the BMW website that the connected drive has a GPS tracking system. X6's are the most stolen car in parts of canada!

Is this correct? And do any of you make use of it? I have ordered a new X6 40d and would like to know if I need to order a separate GPS tracking system?

GPS tracking devices are useless in my mind. You can buy a small device on the eBay or elsewhere in the internet to suppress the GPS/GSM signal - a must for any theft.
Take a look at this jammer - http://www.tayx.co.uk/gmt05-gps-gsm-jammer.html

Good point X6M. So what in your opinion is a better way to protect the car?

The best option to protect the car is not buying one.

The problem is that any electronic protection can be broken.
I am thinking about Mil-T-Lock for the hood (to protect your electronic brains as this is how they steal cars.). This is far more difficult to brake!

i just googled Mil-T-Lock because I have never heard of it. But I cannot find what you mean. I found a site Mul-T-Lock.com , but i dont think this is what you mean.

Do you have a website link for me?

BMW assist has it. Your dealership should have explained this to you when you purchased your vehicle.

This is about the Mul-t-lock

This is about a car Mul-T-lock

Mul-T-Lock was initially used in the cars with manual/automatic gearbox.
In the modern cars the gearbox is fully electronic so the Mul-T-lock for the gearbox is now obsolete.

Just google "hood lock" or something. I used to have it on my previous Merc.

"X6's are the most stolen car in parts of canada!" ok i'll bite which parts and what would they do with them the car hasn't been out very long and not that many of them.
In USA Honda civic, Accord is most stolen because there are so many there is a huge parts market.

As far as tracking systems to protect you car there a number that will track world wide even if car is in cargo container, they are expense. Not sure this would be worth the money, as you can get the car replaced by insurance.

Now if the purpose is not for theft but in case you get lost in the mountains in a blizzard the GPS in the X6 will not be of any help. If this is the issue there are a number of international emergency location devices you can get for this purpose, they are generally intended as extreme emergency use.
