Different Tire Model Front and Rear OK?
Hi folks. I'm having a hard time finding the same Pirelli model in my size for my rear winter setup. I have Scorpion Ice and Snow on the front. Can I use Sottozero or Winter Carving in the rear, or does that present a problem from a wear/transfer case perspective?

It actually would. While a manufacturer may claim say a 315 width tire, another could be slightly larger or smaller, but both are claiming 315. Same with things like tread wear. There isn't an industry guideline or standard, just some agreed upon "principles."
Your only option would be to measure and make sure you're within and under 1/8" rolling diameter. Which logistically speaking, maybe difficult to do, but sounds easy in theory...

All you need to be concerned about is having the same diameter within 1% regardless of width. Most tire manufacturers and online resellers will list this information so a simple search of the tires you are looking at will give you the answer.

Thanks. I think the fear of messing up the transfer case is probably something that Tire Rack relies on!

Just change the fluid more often, I have heard they can tend to be weaker. Or roll the dice, and keep 1000$ saved up, that's how much that one E70 transfer case guy sells them for.
