Hmm I thought these had already been recalled? I had mine replaced during the N63 campaign.

I'm not sure what to think of the recall. I bought my X5 used so part is me is like "yea I'll take your free parts"!

Other part of me is pissed that I have to drive 200 miles away to get this thing fixed. I now have 3 outstanding recalls.

Just got the recall letter for my wife's 2008 X5 3.0si. It says the remedy is unavailable. Campaign number 16V-746: in-tank fuel pump.

I'm trying to understand why a remedy isn't available. I could understand if they stated parts weren't available, unless that's what remedy not available means.

At least I got my driveshaft and injectors replaced. Those airbags are hard to come by au natural. You have to bug BMWNA apparently for them to magically allocate the part.

I thought maybe there was a difference for the 3.0si specifically since it is no longer in production and the problem may be in the design of the replacement part. The airbag for our 3.0si still doesn't have a remedy either...though my 2012 X5M has already been fixed and cleared for the airbag.

I think it very nice for them to send the letter but never have the parts available. I also have three non-part recalls. Has anyone heard when the airbags and fuel pump will be available? In the mean time I will take my chances with shrapnel flying out of the airbags if deployed.

For my 2011 X5M, only the drivers side is available. My SA told me if I call BMWNA and raise holy heck, they usually "allocate" one.

I did the call. They told me when the part is available in my area (whatever that means) I would be notified with another letter. Then to schedule with the nearest dealership. I can read and if I thought my answer was already answered I wouldn't have wasted my time asking.

Somehow, others, including myself, were able to convince BMWNA to expedite the part without delay, which arrived at our local dealers within days of our request.

When everyone says just call BMWNA and they will get you the part is that for people getting the "remedy not available" letter and recall notification or for people getting the "parts not yet available" notification. When I first received the airbag notification there was no remedy, then the next letter said there is a temporary fix of the inflator but parts not available, then the letter came that said parts were available to do the temporary fix. We did that but the full remedy is still unavailable as of now. The same for the fuel pump letter. We just received the first letter saying that there is a recall but the remedy is unavailable.

Mine was for the "parts not yet available" for the airbag recall, which was garbage since we know they have been prioritizing by region for quite some time. I pressed them, telling them I felt unsafe driving the car, and that I wanted a loaner immediately. That somehow expedited things.

For some reason I doubt demanding a loaner would make them make a part especially for you. I was told that there is not a manufactured part that is available as of yet. But maybe you were more persuasive than I.

It was probably the argument as a whole; particularly the concern for safety. For the airbag, they have the parts; they're just first allocated for different regions. Someone with decision making abilities can simply request that they be sent to a particular dealer.

So the fuel pump started to fail, probably since the truck is at 94k miles. It had occasional dips in the idle, then it started doing long starts and stalls. I bought a multimeter and tested the battery, the fuel pump relay, and the ground. There were no codes, the stalls happened after it started so not the starter, and the problems were in the middle of a tank of gas so not bad gas.

I called BMW and they said that since the car is out of warranty and the recall parts are not available then I would need to pay $165 for the diagnostic and if it was the fuel pump then they would replace it with a new recall pump and then replace it again when the fixed pumps come in. They also said that if they found anything else wrong during the diagnostic then I would need to pay them to fix that before they would cover the new fuel pump. Made sense to me so I dropped it off the next morning.

They called me later in the day to inform me that it was the fuel pump and they will replace it under the recall. He said he had to special order and the part would be there on Thursday. I didn't ask if it was the old fuel pump or the fixed version. I'll report back over the weekend.
