Question Vehicle Transport

Hello -

I'm considering picking up a used 2013 BMW X5M and I need a good vehicle transport company that does enclosed transport.

Can anyone recommend a good company? It would ship from CA to MD.

Intercity Lines & Reliable Carriers are at the top of most lists for high end transport.

Are you buying from a dealer?

If so, you may be stuck using the dealers preferred transporter.

I bought my X5 in Orange County, CA and had I arranged my own transport or opted to drive the car back I would have had to pay CA sales tax which was substantially higher than CO. The difference in saved sales tax ended up being about equal to the cost of the enclosed transport, so I was happy.

Good luck!

Thanks for the replies.

I want to ask some general questions about the X5M. As you can see in my sig, I've owned some nice sports cars, but the idea of a super SUV/SAV is something I haven't fully wrapped my head around. Aside from poor gas mileage, what can I expect from the X5M? How does it drive, handle, sound, etc...

First, is it an "M" or and "M-sport" ... big difference.

Do yourself a favor and drive either/or locally.

Expect (ordinary wear and tear) "M" expenses to be 50% to 100% more than "M-sport" and non M-sport models once out of warranty ...

The thrill of driving the M will be continuously off-set by the outrageous expenses.

CA to MD in an enclosed transporter is going to be spendy.

I would think at least $2500 and if you are off the beaten path, even more.

I had my X5 shipped from GA to MD and the dealer didn't push any preferred carrier on me. I went online and had about 20 outfits bid it down. I picked the one with the best reviews. It was not enclosed but it was $650.

I got a quote from a referral on here for $1540 enclosed transport.

Try Uship. I have had great luck with them. 1540 is ridiculous! How far is it going?

It's not, actually. Most companies are charging $2,xxx for a shipment from CA to MD fully enclosed.

CA to MD? I guess it's not that crazy.

http://www.intercitylines.com/ is hands down the best I have used.

I've shipped multiple cars cross country (NY to CA, FL to CA, CA to PA, etc.) using several carriers before Intercity. One open carrier (seriously) lost the entire truck for several days (no cell or GPS signal). Neither the carrier nor I could contact him and they had no clue and were of little help as they contract it out. The driver eventually came back in touch with the world and was apparently "sick" in a motel somewhere. Right.

The Intercity drivers own their trucks and are supremely professional and polite. It was worth every penny for the driver calling me (not the other way around) each day and he even arrived early. They have a ton of experience with high end cars (much above my cars). They are a sponsor over on 6speedonline and are quick to respond with quotes there if it's easier for you.
