2008 X5 right headlight malfunction

Every so often, the right low beam would go out, triggering the warning indicator on the dash. Generally, it would come back on after a few seconds to a few minutes. Recently, it went out permanently. I've tried 3 other bulbs (2 new and one used) but to no avail. Is this an indicator that it could need a new Lighting Control Module (LCM)? If so, and being over 2 hours from the dealer, is this something I should be able to order and replace or would it be best left to the dealer. Also, I read somewhere else that one individual disconnected the battery for an hour and then reconnected and his similar issue corrected itself (presumably by causing the module to reset??). does that sound feasible or even worth trying? Could I do any other damage by disconnecting the battery for that long of a period of time? Thanks in advance for any suggestions!
