Other sources sell the unit (without coding) in the $1200-$1400 range. Okee's rates have always been fair, so I would expect to see it from him for that or less.

Interested in finding out the price on the unit described on the last page. I had put a remote starter on my last vehicle 2009 Ford F-150 and I paid $250. $1200 is an outrageous price for a remote starter, if that is the going price I will be walking through the the snow every morning to start my cold vehicle.

I paid around $800 for the Viper remote start in my 2002 Harley Davidson F150, but it has EVERY option...window modules (which conveniently made all my windows into one touch), interior motion sensor and piezo siren, they wired a door pin (I put LED rope lighting into the bed) and a power door lock motor on the tailgate handle...the biggest perk of this remote though is that it has 2 miles of range and tells me the temp inside the truck before I get in.
$1200 for this alarm and I still have to be 500ft from the X5M...useless.

The truck starter was amazing, started through concrete walls and inside of buildings at least 1000ft away no problem. Would love to have it on the x. |

What I'm doing is agreeing that $1200 is WAY too much then I clearly said what I paid and what truck I installed it on, options and all...I'm confused as to how you're confused :-)

I did mine a few months ago.
Here's what I got. -Direct 'Plug & Play' Remote Start Control Module And Harness -Start Your Vehicle Directly From Your Factory Remote -Two Long Range Remotes Included Which Allow You To Lock/Unlock & Start/Stop Your Engine (Up To 3,000' Range) -Long Range Remotes Include A Two Way Remote & A One Way Remote -Professional Installation I don't know if it is still the same package. I don't want to post the price but it was less than 1000$. I can use my original remote (short distance) or the long distance one. I'm very happy on how it works. |

So if it was less than $1000, how much less was it? Is the range working as advertised? Who'd you get it through?

Hi All. Forum and X5 newbie here, but hobbyist installer of many electronical whizz-bangs in all things motoring over my 25 year driving career.
From what I can tell so far, the Flashlogic FLRSBM1 is the only way to get RS in the cars with the Comfort Access feature. If you don't have CA, you could (theoretically) get by with something much cheaper such as the one by Directed Electronics (I don't have the exact module # handy, sorry - but I have it installed in my 2007 VW Passat). The DEI requires some wiring though - you gotta be comfortable snipping a few things up under the dash. that DEI RS module cost me about $80 when I bought it 3 years ago. To program it, I had to buy the $30 USB-to-DEI interface cable, download the specific program for my car from their website and use my desktop computer to flash the module. Then the module plugs into the car and gives you 3-unlock or 3-lock RS. Again, from what I can gather so far - the Flashlogic module seems to work the same way only with substantially more expensive equipment. It also doesn't require a donor key to bypass the immobilizer. Cheapest price I can find on eBay for the module itself is $500. The flash cable is another $45, then from there you sign up on their website as an indy installer and download the right binary file for your rig and away you go. Into it for <$550 if you're at all proficient enough with basic hand tools to get under the dash and plug in a couple harnesses. Has anybody done this themselves yet? I'm planning to, but need to pay a couple other bills off first before I'll feel okay about spending the $545 it'll take to give it a go. Had $4k in unexpended medical bills show up in the mail so gotta deal with those first. Curious to know who else has tried this on their own already though. Thanks, Greg |

I have the Drone mobile on my X5M. Works through fob or smartphone.
http://www.dronemobile.com Had it professionally installed. It is a little buggy sometimes but usually works when I need it in the winter. |

I have the Drone mobile installed and mainly use it through the app on my android phone. You can use the key fob to remote start as well but then don't get the feedback if it is started or not. The app will also warn you of any break-in attempts if the alarm is triggered. Drone also states it should also report items such as battery voltage but it does not do that on my vehicle. I did buy the premium version that will also track your location on a map. I don't really use this feature much. Below are some Remote start bugs I have with my 2013 x5M that come to mind. Keyless doors don't function as normal when remote started. Rears won't open. Figured out you need to be patient and pull on the handle. After a few seconds the doors will unlock. This is different than normal where you just have to touch the inside of the handle. Sometimes vehicle does not start and does not alert status. This is a real annoyance when the weather is cold and you are counting on a warm vehicle. Sometimes it does not start and I get the message; Unsuccessful start: Ignition already on. Don't know what that means. Lights flash after remote start. Occasionally running lights will continue to flash*while driving and sometimes after shutdown. The only way to correct it is to shut down and restart with remote start. Normally*my BMW X5M requires 2 presses of the vehicle starter button to completely shut down the vehicle. When the remote start has been used the vehicle and all other electronic features shut down with 1 press of the starter button. Not a big deal but if you press twice as normal then you turn the vehicle electronics back on again. In general using the remote start seems to interfere with the normal operations of some convenience functions. It is an annoyance, as creatures of habit we are accustomed to consistency with our devices and vehicles. Overall it usually works great and I am sure some of the reporting issues are possibly related to cellular networks. Lately the app has stopped communicating with my vehicle. I have run through the troubleshooting and it still does not work so it looks like a trip to my installer is required. With a few fixes it could be a great app but it does annoy me sometimes. I had a Compustar remote start on a previous and found it to be much more reliable. |

I said clearly the brand of the alarm and the truck for which it was installed, using it as a reference. The badge shouldn't make the price 2x as much when ultimately it does less. The alarm itself doesn't care if it's installed on a Mazda or a McLaren...door pin triggers are door pin triggers.

I just paid $520 shipped for a plug and play system with an extended range antenna from kickyride.com...codemycar is easily 2x as much and so far doesn't seem to offer anything better.
