Diesel consumption

For those running diesels can I please get a few straw polls on what consumption you are really getting day to day. Currently running an M5 which gets about 16mpg. Considering stitching to a 4.0d, but would like some real word data on what the 3.0d and the 4.0d really do.

I had a few hours in a 3.0d and was getting around 32mph. Wondering if the 4.0d does better or worse in reality and whether I was getting a realistic figure.

Thanks

I get about 30mpg according to the fuel computer.
I get about 550 miles to a tank of fuel in my 40d but thats running well into the low fuel warning.

Only got the 35D so the 40D should better it .
I took it on a long run and managed to get it over 40mpg by driving like a saint at 60mph and taking it really easy in the urban bits where it dropped to 39mpg (ish)
normal urban stuff sees 26+mpg without caring but giving it a bit more beans sees it fall to low 20's , with a bit more effort I think 28mpg is achievable for urban plus some country work and high 30's for motorway stuff. I doubt that it'll break it mid 40s except if its pure m'way with no urban stop/start stuff.

Not sure what BM did to make the 35D into the 40D as engine size the same and still with twin turbos but airbox intake looks different and it may have full stop /start now (mine doesnt)..

PS all from imperial gallons

I sold my 30d last week, but have some numbers for you, my car was chipped to 300Hp and use to get 30kms per gallon (7.9kms p/litter) on city driving (here in Costa Rica we have no such highways to get great mileage) but if I compare my 30d against my wife's Audi Q7 3.0tdi with no chip , the Q7makes only 22kms p/gallon (5.8 kms p/litter)

I get around 26 mpg in mixed driving brim to brim with a daily commute of 25 miles in traffic with the odd couple of miles at the beginning/end on dual carriageway. I'm happy enough with that as the car's a tank and it's still a lot better than the wife's Q7 30d which she only uses for school runs and shopping.
