We got the increased battery discharge message on our 2011 50i several times. Ours is a bit more than three years old, and has 31,000 miles. When our dealer, BMW of Bridgewater, heard the message we were getting, they squeezed us in right away, and replaced the battery under warranty while we waited.

Here is what the receipt from the dealer service department says:
Verified CC message for battery discharge. Connected battery charger and ran vehicle test. Ran energy diagnostic but test plan was inconclusive in terms of battery state of health. Connected midtronics tester and found battery in need of replacement. Need to replace battery. Replaced battery and registered new battery.

We made the jump, and got a 2009 X5 xDrive35D. We couldn't be happier! However, this afternoon, I discovered my SUV's yellow lights being ON. I re-locked my SUV, and the lights turned OFF. However, when I went to check up on the dashboard later, I got a message about the battery having low charged. Driving for a few minutes made the message go away.

I would like to ask for your advice on whether I should bring this to a BMW dealership. As you can guess, I shirk at the idea of shelling out $500+ a pop. How much would a battery replacement at a dealership actually cost? I would appreciate hearing from those in Canada.

Also, for those in Canada, are you aware of any recalls involving 2009 X5 xDrive35D? I called BMW Canada, and they said there's none; I know US has one involving diesel smell on cold starts.

Thanks in advance!

The car is dead as in how? Is the alternator working? Is the IBC working? Could it just be a faulty battery (yes, they do happen)? Any added electronics added?

15 min ago walk out to take off charger and the car is DEAD again!!! so somehoe, something sucked the life right out of the car!! unreal right?

now this today.... so when it says "high battery drain" culd that be from anywhere? or a particular sensor or something specific to the x5m's?

It could be from anywhere. The IBC is seeing there is a high discharge. With the right equipment, it could point to where the high discharge is coming from.

Do you have a warranty?

The dealer should be putting it on the diagnostic equipment and see what it says and that should be included in the $150 fee. I would just call the dealer and ask them what they plan on doing. You paid for a new battery and four days later, a bigger issue. I would push that BMW warrants parts and labor for 2 years and given that you just replaced the battery 4 days ago, the dealer should be diagnosing the new issue for free (if the dealer is the one that replaced the battery.)

yes.. i told dealer not to do diag first time for $150 bc i knew it was the battery.. that $150 is just a BS fee
this time around I guess i'll have to get them to do the test? or your saying they should waive the fee bc their battery dies in 4 days?

Well, you rejected the fee, so I can't see the dealer doing it for free. They would say, you decided against it and now still have an issue. So you're going to have to pay for it. I would still call the dealer and ask if they can tell what module is causing the issue with their $150 diagnostics fee. You could also try an independent shop.

Well, a low or bad battery can cause malfunctions. So I wouldn't be too worried about those right now and concentrate on the battery issue. After that is resolved, worry about anything that pops up. Chances are, the above errors will go away.

I probably wouldn't drive it if you are worried about it leaving you stranded; or if you won't be in someplace too long, leave it running.

appreciate all the replies and help
codes were
1. right rear comfort access
2. Coolant pump
3. aux to coolant pump

Quoted $2200 in addition to the $700 i already paid! nuts!

Worked it out with them and now paying $570 ish for those 3 items to be replaced.. which in turn should stop the High Battery Drain issue

I hope

So it seems the concensus is to either replace the battery with an AGM (BMW @ $510 or AutoZone/walmart H8 for $180 (which is what I run in my E53 and E38)) and/or replacing the IBC/negative battery cable for $200. It's been cold here in Seattle (mid 20's at night) and I got the high drain warning this morning even though I park in a garage, so we'll see what happens tonight when I leave work at 1am.

I've never experienced the increased battery discharge when the weather is not freezing. I can leave my car parked for a week or 2 without any trouble. The problem is when the weather gets cold. I get the warning when the temperature is -20C since the fans work overtime each time I park the car and they can run for a maximum of 30 minutes

The question is : has anybody been able to have the battery replaced by BMW on warranty with this bulletin?

SI B61 30 14
General Electrical Systems January 2015

This Service Information bulletin supersedes SI B61 30 14 dated December 2014.

SUBJECT
BMW Maintenance Program: 12-Volt Battery Replacement Measure

Produced from 4/2010 to 6/2013
With the N63 engine

E71 (X6)
Produced from 4/2010 to 6/2013

E71 (X6)
Produced from 7/2013
With the N55 or S63 engine

and a few other models with N63 and S63 motors.

Requires a new battery at oïl counter #2

I feel BMW forgets a lot of folks. An X6M 2014 is exactly the same as an X6M 2010-2014 and also as an X5M 2010-2013.

BMW canada doesn't want to do anything with my battery yet.

i had this issue a few times, even after a fresh battery . found out my comfort access on my door was broken and was draining the battery. got it replaced and no more battery warning until a month later and the rear comfort access also failed and high battery drain again. Once again replacing comfort access did it for me. haven't gotten high battery drain in about a year now
