iPhone 4 media adapter plugin part number(s)

Greetings. I picked up my 2012 X6, great car. I asked about the the iPhone 4 media adapter. The parts guy said he had one in stock for 266.00. The part number is: 84 21 2 218 390. He checked his computer for compatibility and said he was sure it was the proper one. I was concerned as it looked a little different than the photo, but I plugged it in tried it out and the iPod function worked. After a little bit of use I notice some odd things, no video through iPod function, overheating iPhone. Checked the manuals and it only listed 3G/3GS.

Looked around on line and saw the part number #84 21 2 199 392 for the iPhone media adapter. Does anyone know which is the most current? Willing to wait just want to make sure I have the right one for the 266.00.

Thanks,
Vincent

I am also trying to figure this out. I have a parts dealer that I have been using trying to figure it out for me. He will hopefully get back to me today. I had given him my vin # to make sure this is the correct piece. For now use your white USB apple wire it works very good and will do just about everything besides the plugin interface.

Been down this road and the one you want is part# 84 21 2 218 390 which I will have in my hands on Monday. There were old part numbers floating around on the internet and those numbers are no longer valid by what I was told. Does your X6 have 6FL or 6NR? I have a X5 and made sure I ordered the 6FL and will upgrade to 6NR in June when available from the dealer as a software upgrade.

Are you guys talking about the snap-in adapter for the smartphone integration? I ordered BMW apps on my '12 X6, which comes with the 6NF smartphone integration.

For my 6NF on my X5, I have a snap-in adapter for a 3G, but I don't have one for my iPhone4 yet. Is the part number 84 21 2 218 390 referred to in this thread what I need?

Thanks!

how are these installed? It is as simple as just popping them in? Or is it more complicated?
