TPMS sensor
I want to add sensors to my aftermarket replica wheels. I found these ones online and just wanted to make sure it's the right one. Would I have to take it to Bmw or can any Indy bmw shop code them?

Are you sure your vehicle has TPMS sensors? I ask because you are in Canada and if you have a Canadian spec vehicle as in your avatar you probably don’t have the sensors inside your tires. Canadian spec vehicles up to 2014 had FTM ( flat tire monitor) system not tpms. They work by measuring the tire’s rotation not pressure of the tire. I know this is the case with my 2013 X6M. If you are not sure you can confirm by just looking at the tire valve.

I have a 2010 X6 activehybrid US spec. The stock 19s had sensors and since I got aftermarket wheels I have the yellow light on the dash.
The wheels I have now are replicas. Is there a way to determine whether these wheels can accommodate sensors? |

They should fit your replicas no problem. To make sure you get the correct ones originally spec'd you can check on realoem by enterring your vin number and search. I don't think you need to go to the dealer to program. You will need to reset the TPMS in idrive then drive around for about 10 min. The electronics should communicate with the module to idrive and sync up,

Thanks for the info. I was unsure about the programming because in the description of the sensor it indicates multi fit and that programming would be required.
I'll just have the tire shop install them on the wheels when they swap on the winter tires and then go for a long drive. If they still don't register then I guess at that point I'd have to get a shop to program them I imagine. |

I went on the ECS website and I found another set of sensors that are supposed to be the correct ones for an E72. I've sent them an email to verify fitment.

Just make sure they are same ones currently on your car now to prevent any issue syncing up.

That's the thing. I don't have any tpms sensors currently. The oem wheels had the sensors and since then I've had three aftermarket sets of wheels. Online I've read that they need programming via the multi tool but it also says that they can be reset via iDrive. Perhaps calling a local shop will give me some info

Geez, $239 for all four sensors
I ordered four new ones (non OEM) off of Ebay for $67 (total) a couple of years ago for my aftermarket winter rims and they work perfectly. I didn't need to take it to the dealer, I just used the iDrive to get the system to recognize them. |
