Recently sold my e90 335 with the intention of buying an SUV. After driving many options (Acura, Toyota, Lexus, Infiniti) its clear to me the BMW's engagement, specifically torque is irreplaceable.

I'm a BMW enthusiast and have had 3 in the past 7 years. I was looking at 2012/2013 X3's with the same motor but came across this 2011 X5 well equipped with only 36,000kms. It has a Clean history and is getting an independent inspection.

For all you owners, are you pleased with your vehicles. I understand they have some issues (some more than others) but does the BMW engineering outweigh the hassle of the odd repair?

Any insight and feedback would be appreciated. Cheers

I love my 2012 and it's got 115k miles on it. Just had to replace the transfer case but it was an easy swap took 5 hrs and now it's back to being a great ride again. Haven't had a single issue really other than maintenance now that's it's over 100k, Carbon blasting, fluid changes. It all adds up. But otherwise rock solid.

Reassuring to hear! This has 36,000kms and would be the equivalent to 22-23,000 miles.

Should have lots of life left

Check the recalls on the car. 2011 had a few recalls along with the usual airbags: VANOS, driveshaft, and most recently the fuel pump.

OP-I was in the exact same situation as yourself, I've had (2) 335i's and went to a SUV granted I bought a Range Rover. Sold the Range Rover for the 2011 X5 3.5i because I love BMW clearly haha. I feel it's a great option, plenty of space even without the third row (which is an option) and enough get up. SUV I feel is the X5, if you want a cross-over then the X3/X6 is your go to.

Thanks for sharing.

On a positive note, before they put it on the lot, they had BMW install a new thermostat and waterpump (due to engine code showing thermostat sticking open or not getting to operating temp). So that's one of the common troubles out of the way.

Good luck with that inspection. If it doesn't work out, there's plenty more around, perhaps even one with some more packages/options.

Keep us posted!

Inspection came back very clean. No leaks, codes, nothing! Brakes and tires will need replacing soon but that's not too concerning.

Out of curiosity, what options or packages (other than M) is this car missing?

I know Canadian packaging names are sometimes different, but if we assume all the same options are available as U.S. spec X5's -

Sport Package
Premium Sound Package
Active Ventilated Seat Package
Adaptive Drive
3rd row seats
Rear seat entertainment
Lane departure warning
Active Cruise Control
Leather dashboard
HUD
20" wheels
I would say Active Steering, but someone said that wasn't available on the diesel?

Might be missing something else, not sure.

Many of these are rare, but still they were available. You might most be disappointed in the audio? Option 645 is the basic sound system for 2011 35i/35d, and leaves a lot to be desired. In 2012, at least in the US, 645 was replaced by 676 Hi-Fi audio, which is substantially better. In either year, if the vehicle has Premium Sounds, that would be 677. The plus on this one, it has the Comfort Seats...gotta have those
