X5M oil weight?
Last night I went to pick up oil to top off. Upon researching there seems to be conflicting stories on which oil is RECOMENDED by BMW for this engine. To be FRANK, not rude; I'm not interested in any opinions, I'm just looking for the correct oil for this engine. Can someone with the correct and only answer chime in? Thanks and apologies for the blunt nature of this post but I do not have access to my manual until the weekend and I was hoping for a simple answer from past threads.

Yea i read that thread last night and got frustrated when I saw dealers putting different oil in the same engine so I closed it.
It seems 5w30 is the answer. Thanks |

This all started because the older M engines were naturally aspirated and high revving. The required super thick oil, like 10W-60. The S63 does not require this type of oil since oil slinging is not an issue like it is on an S54 or S85. |

Called the (reputable) dealer earlier today and without hesitation confirmed 5W-30.
Common response from (uneducated) shops will state it needs 10W-60 as Crazy mentioned, since they assume its high revving. |
