..::PSI::.. Project X

Project X

Hey guys,

Project X came to us as a 100% stock X5 5.0xdrive with the client’s initial goal of making a faster winter time vehicle. As we delved into the performance upgrades, the X5 began to turn into more than just a sleepy winter truck and into a true all-wheel drive snow rocket.

With the addition of every mod, Project X became an X5 with a new meaning and purpose - an X5 that makes more power than a stock X5 M, but with a dual nature that you can appreciate in the winter or summer months of the year.

MOD LIST
Active Autowerke ECU Software
Supersprint Race Downpipes and Stainless muffler
21 inch HRE P40Rs in brushed/cleared finish
BMW X5 M Front Bumper and fender flares (custom fitted)
Vorsteiner X5 M CF Front Lip
Vorsteiner X5 Carbon Hood
H&R Sport Springs

Bravo! Looks amazing, any issues fitting X5m bumper on non-X5? Is it direct fit or requires extra parts? Thanks.

It actually took quite a bit of body work and finess to get them to work and play together.

It's not an easy thing to do, but we feel it was well worth it.

Damn! I'd really like to do that mod. Somebody should really come out with modified X5M bumpers for the non-M models (..or at least make a front bumper similar to it). Will you provide a shortened synopsis of what needed to be done to make it work? To the naked eye, it would just seem that the X5M bumper and X5M front fender flares are all that is needed (..because the fender flares are shorter). Does the body work connect at different points on the X5M versus non-M X5's?

the X5 M has the same front as an X6. so youd need X6 headlights and fenders and hood.

Unfotunately, it actually is not easy to do this. It looks as if it would be from the parts alone, but to make it all line up and work together it takes substantial modification and finesse from an experienced body guy.

The X5M has different fenders, which we did not use on this making it more more work for the body guys (making the front bumper fit and look OEM).

Let me know if you have questions specifically on parts of the work.

Thanks Sean. I already did the retrofit and detailed the process in my thread. We took a slightly different approach than you guys did, but it turned out sweet nonetheless.

No, there's another way. I only needed the bumper and fender extensions.

Looks awesome but not sure I understand the "snow rocket" premise.. Why do we need some bonehead going as fast as possible in the snow? I assume there is a set of winter wheels or are the low profile 21's in the pictures just to make sure it doesn't actually go anywhere in any real snow?

Why not starting with the real ///M X5, but heavily modify a 50i?
Great final result, but with a lot of work
