Blatant case of BMW nickel and diming us.

If you look at the BMW website under accessories, they offer a Sirius satellite retrofit via a software code.

That to me means that all of the hardware is there, whether you option to buy it or not.

They just want you to pay $350 extra to software enable it from the factory or a little more to retrofit via a code. It probably costs them next to nothing for the hardware.

Just make it standard already! Take away the 1yr free if that's burdening costs.

This is just one of the many examples of BMW charging rediculous amounts for options. Unfortunately I don't see them changing until we stop buying their cars.

The antenna is there, you need a receiver and programming. It is not just a software update.

Not true for for 2010 and 2011 cars. I believe that the new CIC idrive systems have satellite receiver hardware included.

You can take a look at yourself with the website by going to the vehicle accessories tab under the bmwusa.com website. The pricing for 2007-2009 vehicles menntions an actual receiver. For the 2010-2011 cars, the price is cheaper and mentions a "retrofit enable code".

It is available for cars both with and without the factory installed navigation.

When you order it from the factory, your $350 includes a year of service, so it's really nearly free. Porsche charges over $700 and doesn't include any service!

Actually, you get 3 months of service with a Porsche, but like all Porsche options you pay through the nose.

I believe retrofit also includes 1 yr of service.

However, why OP is so outraged in the first place? Any option costs BMW pennies if anything at all, and so is moving up from 3.5 to 5.0, etc. Next thing you know, someone will discover free maintenance is actually rolled into the purchase price and you still pay for it...

2010+ built after 10/2009 already have the module (if you have the S693A Preparation BMW satellite radio option).

They charge 350$ for the FSC activation code for CIC headunit.
But, it includes a 1 yr membership (worth 170$).
Then, my local dealer asks for a 2 hour recoding fee.

I'vve found a local shop in MTL that can order the FSC activation from Germany for 185$.
This price includes the FSC code + importation + coding + Sirius radio activation in CIC.
But you need to add a subscription.
