Easy to retrofit rear camera?

Hi all,

Does anyone have experience with retrofitting a rear camera? Is this easy? The car is equipped with professional NAV (609).

Many thanks!

Yea it is easy on E70. I had it done last year. I bought the kit online and had the local stereo shop install it.

The camera kit I bought is the one that gets installed in the factory location.

I don't remember where I bought the kit, but they shop owners post on many BMW forums.

This may be a dumb question, but does the rear camera image show up on the iDrive screen (on an E70 with OEM/factory installed backup camera) or do you have to install another screen?
Can you tell me where you bought the kit and post any pics of it installed?

Here is the contact info for where I bought this from <kris@modmynav.com>

I liked this kit as it replaces the trunk switch assembly and not one of the license lights.

Kris was great to answer any of my questions. I think he may have recommended one of the local installers in the area.

That's not the OEM integration despite what they may have told you.

I emailed them but still no answer.

You are right, it's not the OEM kit, and doesn't have all of the intergrated functionality (auto-dim, aspect ration, leveling, and defrosting), but it does do the trick and is pretty much plug and play.

The OEM kit is $1000 + shipping and that's the cheapest I've found. But for half the price (and functionality) this kit is good enough to serve the purpose.

Either way, I guess it's a preference thing. But you are right about it not being OEM.
