E70 Climate control strange configuration problem...

Good morning,

Another problem in my quest to revive my E70 (X5)…

I recently bought the E70 as a project. Lots of electrical problems were present because of jumpstart with wrong polarity. Now I also discovered the following problem:

There are 3 different heater configurations for the E70: Basic (with 6 flap motors), IHKA-2 zone (with 10 flap motors) and IHKA 4-zone (13 flap motors).

The last configuration also means that an FKA (rear seat control panel), more air ducts are present and a separate rear blower motor is present.
My E70 has 4-zone IHKA climate control. The FKA (rear seat control panel) is present and also the blower, ducts and cabling is present (in original cable loom).

BUT… now I see that three errors are present in the memory: rear footwell flap motor (2X) and stratification motor error. I removed the complete dashboard, because I expected those motors to be faulty after the electrical abuse from the previous owner…

I discovered that there is a heater core present with 10 flap motors. It looks like the original cable loom is in, also with 10 connectors for flap motors (no loose wiring).

I can see that someone has been busy with the core. The right rear flap motor was present, but not connected (no connector available). The left rear flap had a small part of the linkage connected to it, but the motor was missing. The stratification motor + linkage was not present at all.

The E70 is made around 09-2010, which is exactly the switch between E70 and E70 LCI.

Can it be that the standard coding is not right for this car, and that this is a special – in between – configuration of the E70?

As a solution, I can buy the linkages and the motors, but I need to include the connectors myself (linbus).

Does someone know what is going on here? Can this be a normal configuration, or has someone removed those three motors, or has someone replaced the heater block, which is a major task…!

Please see also the attachments for more clarification about the heater configuration of the E70.

Thanks for the answers and best regards,
Hendrik

Reset the standard coding with NCSexpert. It will only take a few minutes and limit variables while you troubleshoot. Code any modules that may have been replaced by the previous owner. That will reload them with the options your car currently has.

1. Load NCSExpert.
2. Load Profile and select Expertmode
3. F1 (VIN/ZCS/FA)
4. F3 (ZCS/FA f .ECU)
5. Choose E70
6. Select CAS
7. F6 (BACK)
8. F4 (Process ECU)
9. Select the Module I want to Revert back to Stock.
10. F2->Choose "SG_Codieren->ok

Off topic, apologies, where can I get access to that documentation you have in the screenshots? Looks like great info in understanding the systems of these trucks.
