285/45/19 on 19" style 335 wheels?
2013 X5d. My vehicle came with the 214 Y spoke but wanting to go square setup. I would like to know if there is enough clearance on front suspension to clear. I have purchased a set of 19x9 ET 48 style 335 wheels with some half worn tires. The default size of tires is 255/50/19. They look so wimpy in comparison to the staggered 20" setup. Changing to gain ability to rotate tires.
If 285 width won't work, 275 does look doable. I measured about a 1/2" clearance between the inboard sidewall of 255/50/19 tires to the suspension closest to it. 275 is 20 mm wider so 10 mm inboard and 10 mm outboard. 10 mm=.393". This gives about .107" clearance. Other option is to still use the 285 but add a spacer. Let me have it please. Last edited by BB_cuda; 01-22-2018 at 07:37 PM.. |

Based on the Tire Size calculator on Discount Tire Direct's website, 285/45/19 would yield the closest in terms of diameter to the OE 255 tire.
Problems you may encounter, though, are: 1) Wheel rub with the wider tire 2) The 19x9 is the minimum width for that size tire. May be a little tough to get on there. You could look into some spacers if wheel rub is an issue.

I went with the 275 size. I felt the gap after they had bolted up the fronts. The 285s would have worked with no spacer. Other reason I went with 275 is none of the 285s had a mileage warranty. I also wanted to stick with the same conti extreme contact DWS-06 tires that were on the 20s (that are for sale). The DWS-06 don't come in the 285/45/19 size.
