2010 X5M Not Downshifting When Passing

On my way home from work today, just noticing an issue with my 2010 X5M. On the highway, the X5M will not downshift when I was trying to pass another driver. In one drive there were muliple occasions where I noticed this. I had to let my foot off the gas at reaccelerate to pass. I always drive in 'regular' and NOT SPORT MODE.

Anyone else notice this issue? What could it be?

1. Put key in the ignition
2. Click on the Start button without having your foot on the accelerator. At this point the lights on the dash will all light up.
3. Push the accelerator to the floor and hold it for about 30 seconds. For me at about 20 seconds I heard a very faint sound. This is the reset sound. Don't worry if you don't hear it. Just keep your foot on the pedal for about 30 seconds.
4. Start car

Adaptive transmission reset - works for most BMW models, but I haven't needed to test it on the X5M.

Anybody try this? Does it work?

Reason I ask is I was just at BMW service and mentioned my recent issue with the car not downshifting when passing. The service they said that the x5m is really solid and he’s never seen an issue with it. I figureed that the dealer of all people would look for a reason to do a diagnostic but said that if there is no error I should be fine. If there was really an error the check engine light would have been triggered. He also said that next time when I am in for an inspection to remind him becaus he will reset the adaptive transmission programming.

No mention if this tactic, will have to give it a shot.

Haven’t ever had one since I bought the car at 49k miles, I am currently at 102k. See my other post, sounds like the adaptive transmission needs to be reset.

Might want to look into that and plus scan for codes

were you able to replicate the problem? Did you press the pedal to the floor where it would press button on the floor? I've noticed that if I'm in "M" mode not much pedal movement is needed to trigger a downshift. When in "efficient" mode, a greater pedal movement is needed.

The computer module is constantly learning and generally resetting adaptation is only needed when a part is replaced or towing.

This is a pic when I reset adaptation doing an o2 sensor swap. There's a similar menu for the transmission.
