Anyone feel this way about black wheels???
I've bit my tongue on asking this question, but I have to ask as I am genuinely interested... What is the draw to the black rim thing? I just don't get it.
95% of the time I see someone with a set and they remind me of an old set of black steel wheels that are missing their hubcaps- lacking any contrast or definition. To me the lack of contrast makes it very difficult to appreciate the style of the rim that many of you spend mucho $$$$ on. No sarcasm intended but can anyone explain what I might be missing? Entirely. It's right up there for me with the whole "murdered out" thing.
Nothing you're missing.

Just another option. Never really considered it myself til I bought a TiAg car with gunmetal wheels. I have to say I have learned to love the look.

I've had black wheels on my black cars in the past. Always liked the way they look.
Recently I've started not liking the black on black look because many cars are coming stock with black wheels, and you have every teenager with a POS car is plastidipping their wheels black. |

imma fan.
then again, black has always been one of my top colors. i was happy when it was out with the chrome and in with the black. that said, i like to add a little something to the black. below has some gun metal mixed in. my last set before these had some slight bronze mixed in. they looked like gloss black and the bronze was hardly noticeable unless in direct sunlight. hard to explain but awesome imo. i don't like black when it's on small rims.

Couldn't tell if that was sarcasm or you agreeing... But regardless, that Camry is the epitome of the exact vehicle I think of everytime I see someone rolling around on these black wheels. Hence my post and confusion on why some choose to roll around on these by choice, because me no comprehende. |

Thick black rims look cheap and probably are cheap. If you have a high quality wheel with thin spokes and the polished rotors behind them and accented brake pad covers (like most exotics) they can look good. It's all about contrast.

I always thought darker wheels were more for hiding the brake dust in racing applications. That was before all the racing posers took note of it and started plastidipping wheels.

I adore black wheels, I always have. I think it's a personal preference more than anything of course. I love to contrast bright colors with darker colors. Here's a pic of my Z4M, I just put some new wheels/tires on last week. I'll be filling up the wheel gaps soon with coilovers, and placing BBKs (once the custom caliper color is done) front and rear to complete the look. I'm hoping to have the BBKs done by next weekend, and the coilovers within a month. Then, I'll start doing some more touches to the car here and there. Wheels are Linea Corse 818s btw, 245/35/19 front and 275/30/19 rear.
Bonus picture. Here's my prior Z4M which I never should have sold and it makes me sick to this day I did. Trying to make up for past mistakes with my new Z4M. Last edited by NickyC; 03-28-2015 at 02:49 PM.. |

Those LC's have a much better curvature and make them stand out in black though. Much better than the BBS you had on the last car. So be proud!

Funny you mention them looking better than the BBS CHs I had on my prior car, I really didn't notice how much better I like the LCs than the BBS wheels until I saw the two pictures! Thanks again. |

I agree, though sometimes I find that I like the look. Looks good on the Porsche in this thread for example but I think that same car would look better without the black rims.

I can't wait for the black wheels fad to be over with. Then again, I have mesh wheels in a goldish colour.

I personally don't think it matters what other people put on THEIR cars. If it bothers you, then don't do it to yours. Personal taste is exactly that, personal. I enjoy my black wheels as it offsets the grey paint job on my car very well. If I had a different color car, I would rock a different color wheel. People can do whatever they want to their cars.

I'm not a fan of black wheels since I think they make the car looks dirty. My f-type came with black wheels and they were swapped out almost immediately.
