V8 to I6

Hey Folks,

I've been driving my 2011 X6 50i for about five years now. This has been a wonderful car. It has few annoying traits but it was fun to drive in every way and that V8 growl I grew to love.

It's time now to trade because of issues with the V8. I would like to order a new one with a V8 but that's $13K more for the V8.

I drove a new 2018 X6 35i last week and while the car still has the looks, I missed that torqey snarl produced from even moderate acceleration.

Has anyone here made the (happy) switch from V8 to I6?

There's a number of members on the F15 X5 forum driving a 35i after driving an E70 50i. Most of them say they definitely miss the V8 power and only went with the 35i for better reliability. There's definitely some give and take here.

I don't know if I could move to a 35i now. I think I would always miss the power and sound, and regret it. Just my .02.

I've always been a v8 nut. 396 BBC, 502/502 Ramjet, Charger SRT, GC SRT....

Having stated the above, you couldn't pay me enough to own a BMW V8. After all I've read on the various BMW sites about BMW's V8's, no freakin' way....

I'm afraid of the V8 too. The V8 option is another $11-12K too. I'm going to reluctantly try the I6. If it doesn't deliver "driving excitement", I'll trade it in after couple of years. Maybe they will come up with a real I6M and not just the cosmetic paste ons.

Thanks for the input.

Volvo's dropping gas engines in 2 yrs. All-electric. Within 5 yrs, you may not have a choice, they'll all be 'lectric...
