I got this idea from the older euro M3's before emissions got too strict so it's not a foreign concept. My main goal was to remove heat from the engine bay and this setup accomplishes that perfectly. I still have a little smell since I went with 100 cell, but going 200 or 400 would definitely eliminate it. The sport valved muffler also controls cold start and refines my systems sound. Straight pipe systems sound unrefined to me so a brand like Eisenmann that focuses solely on sound improvement with valve control was just what I was looking for.
You were previously running catless, correct? Did the addition of the 100 cell cats change the performance or the sound at all?
What tune are you running now? stage 1, stage 2, stage 2+?

I'm running the Velos stage 2+ and only had my setup on for one full day before having the cats welded in. As such I'm unable to give you an accurate assessment on both sound and performance differences between the two. I can say that my setup was not done for emission control, I'm still running a cat less tune and there are no O2's in the cats. This was done only for smell and in that regards it has performed it's job well. A little smell is still there because I'm only using 100 cell, but it is wayyyyyyyyy more tolerable than a pure cat less setup. I'm using catless e9x 335s and M3s as comparison.

Hey buddy, I just installed the BMC air filters today and had the same bowing effect in the center...did you remove that plastic piece in the middle of the air box?

I didn't remove it. I dremelled it into oblivion. Just recently in fact when I replaced them on my second set. If you look inside its just a rectangle extension on each side of the center piece. Dremel it smooth and everything fits perfect.

How much did you dremel off...1/4''-1/2'' or more?

I knew I should have taken pics lol...

If you still have the air box off look at the inside where the filters go in. You will see how the middle section is a "T". Just file off the "T" part with the dremel so it is a "l". The filters will slip in perfectly after that. Let me know if that makes sense as I'm here to help. Post pics if you want.

So this just happened:

Was going to try and get a F80 next year, but this was too good to pass up.

2010 M5 Black sapphire on black
Purchased with 28k miles on 01/15/16
All options except full leather and cooled seats
Came with a Tubi exhaust that was powdercoated black.

No parting out sir. The X5M is a keeper.

That's hard to say. It's a torque monster vs a screaming banshee. Brutal vs smooth. Two totally different feelings. It really is a nice problem to have.

Do you still get louder than stock turbo spooling with the 100 cell cats in place? That's what I miss the most from my full exhaust/catless F10 M5. I currently have the Dinan axle back and, as we all know, it isn't very aggressive. I'm thinking about adding catless DP's but I want to keep the smell and cold start to a tolerable level so I like the idea of doing the 100 cell cats as long as it doesn't mute the spooling turbos too much.

Great choice with the e60 M5. I've always wanted one of those, not too many v10s on the road anymore.

No muting whatsoever. Hear the spooling loud and clear. It's my favorite part of the exhaust note. Love me some spool. This midpipe cat solution might be just what you are looking for then. The Dinan exhaust should help to keep the cold start tolerable while refining the tone just like my Eisenmann sport does. I say go for it. Just know that if you use 100 cell you will still have a little smell. Not near as bad as catless, but some none the less. I'm sure a pair of 200 cells would probably eliminate it, but I'm in no rush as the smell is very mild.

Thanks and I agree. I'm not sure we will ever see an e60 M5 type of car ever again so I had to go for it.
