Weird Air Con Question.......

Ok, I am noticing that there are cold air flow inside my center console and cold air flow around the front cup holder area. The temperature of this air flow seems to be independent of my automatic air con setting (ie 77*F). I've had the car for 2 years now, and I don't know why I am just noticing this now......DUH. Now, is this normal?

You can feel the air flow ? or just feel's cold ?
The rear A/C duct goes below the center console

There is definitely air flow. It's kind of like a strong "whisper".

Check the iDrive. Had this happen to mine and it was set to cool - no matter how hot I tried to make it, it did not warm up.

I just tell myself that it keeps my drinks cool. And in the summer it keeps my iPod cool in the center arm rest.

Cold Air

My 2009 X6 does the same thing. Very noticeable here in Minneapolis on cold mornings. There is a strong cold draft that comes up right around the iDrive knob, regardless of the heat/ac settings.

Ok, I've got this figured out. When the rear vents on the center counsole is shut off, then the air will tend to vent forward into the crevice of the center counsole housing. If you open up the rear vents, then the wispers of air will disapear. Also works if you just shut down the rear climate system from idrive. Of course how much air is being vented will depend on the difference in temperature between the 4 zones of the climate control system. I was starting to think that I got some sort of special drink and chocolate cooler upgrade on my car from BMW!
