BMW X5 vs Macan

Hey guys.
Trying to decide on which one to get.
What would you get and why?

I, too, have noticed the Macan. It's a really good looking car. However, when you look close up, it seems much smaller, both interior and exterior, than the X5.

I would compare it to the X3 or something as far as the similar class/size etc is concerned not the X5. The Cayenne is the equivalent of X5.

The X5 is compared to the Cayenne.

But if your choice is betwen X5 or Macan?

I will go with the Macan

I have driven a Macan and I liked the way it drives, but it is really small inside. They are quite a bit more expensive too unless you get the base model version and not the S or Turbo. Turbo is almost the same price as an unloaded up X5m.

I had a friend to went Cayenne but regretted it after a while and went back to BMW. There are quite a few threads on here with people who strayed to Porsche then came back.

This was back in 2012 he purchased a Cayenne Turbo, no S. He said it was a rocket but felt heavy, didn't like the transmission, and had terrible gas mileage. I think there is a whole new generation out now though so maybe comparing apples to oranges. I don't really speak Porsche so I get confused.

Drove a Turbo/GTS/S at a porsche driving experience day this past October in NORCAL. Did an AUTOX with them (each 1x) pretty impressive cars, but as mentioned above, pretty pricey

We own both a 2013 X5 50i and 2016 Macan Turbo.

The X5 is significantly larger, especially the rear seating and cargo areas.

The 50i is fast, the Macan Turbo even faster, although I miss the V8 exhaust note in the Macan despite that we have the Porsche Sport Exhaust.

The Macan rides and handles far more like a sports sedan versus an X5 as it's lower. If you drove them back to back you would notice this immediately.

In general Porsche has some catching up to do with infotainment and electronics. For example, the rear view camera, navigation, and voice control functions on the X5 are far superior, the Macan has nothing like the Idrive, nor offers the Heads Up Display.

We have the 20 way seats in the X5, and the 18 way sports seats in the Macan. Both are terrific. The X5 seats are a bit more comfortable, whereas the Macan seats are more suited to spirited driving given the unusual amount of bolstering.

I enjoy driving them both.

Great feedback, thanks. I'm at an impass. My 12' x5d is great...and I think it looks good. I want something faster and fun. I work from home and my wife works 1/4 mile away. We have 1 40lb dog. During our ownership we have used the size of the x5 to its fullest extent a handful of times.

So do I keep the x5 and get something like a 997 turbo or do I just get a Macan turbo for all around duties.

I sold all my fun cars when we got engaged (Notchback & C6 vette) - I guess there could be worse decisions to make.

I would get the 997 Turbo without question! (we also have a 996 cab) The Macan Turbo is fast and handles amazingly well for a CUV/SUV, but it will never be a sports car.
